Explore Red will be a new concept to most of the OM's but it has been running for a while now
Their latest project is to gauge public opinion about old/ not used/ already replaced outdoor gear, plus what people think of recycling/ refurbished stuff/ charities
To get people to do the survey (on the www.explorered.com home page) they have had some gear donated by various brand partners they work with. The first prize is for Rab soft-shells & as the first part of the draw closes in 2 weeks: so do the survey now!
Other than winning gear, your views will be compiled (& published later on their web site) for the trade to access; it will influence how seriously eco-matters are taken
Another Explore Red project currently on the go is an 18 month study into how fast outdoor gear wears out. It is being done in conjunction with the Leeds Uni Performance Clothing Testing Centre who will test the gear every couple of month for waterproofness/ breathability/ durability/ etc. The rest of the time the gear is being used & abused
