Yaktrax

Pile of poo

After about three uses the rubber snapped on mine, and the spring had distorted completely.

Nice idea, but i would not recommend Yaktrax walkers to anyone. Although cheap, it is money down the pan if they dont work.

OH!... and an update on the Yaktrax - they are rubbish; the rubber snapped after about three uses. Pile of Poo IMO.

Snap!

I bought a pair for my mum and dad. The 'spring' snapped on my dads after a few days use. He managed a rough repair with a pair of pliers.

I thought it might just have been me, but clearly not.

Saves me posting.

Wait a minute. I've just posted!

Kahtoola microspikes seem to be the way forward - my wife bought me a set for Christmas, and I've been seriously impressed, not least with how quickly I can whip them on and off when I'm out with the dogs.

Second, Kahtoola microspikes!

Thirdededed. The Kathoolas have been really useful lately. Admiring glances & comments, I should be on commission for the number of people I've ended up showing them to in detail, telling them where they might buy them, and so on. And suddenly I've been able to outrun blokes thirty years younger than me!

Icebugs.

OK 'til the ice runs out & you've road to walk on - would tear the 'Bugs to bits

If they're running away that should be taken as a pretty strong hint that they're not interested

No sign of wear on mine. I'm pretty sure the carbide studs are designed to retract on pavements and such like.

I've heard two different people coming back from walking in Yaktrax and finding that one had fallen off somewhere.  Just badly put on, or a design fault?

They are only held on by tension, so only really suitable for level ground. The 'Pro' version has a fore-foot strap to keep them in place.

While out walking our dogs last week, we crossed paths with a woman who'd had the same problem - one of her yaktraks had come right off while she was walking.

Both the cases I heard about were level ground pavement walking, but not the 'pro' version.  I think I'll add an instep strap or bit of string  to mine and Mrs. Frum's.

How to fasten it - bow or velcro?  Decisions, decisions.

Mine didn't come off, they just broke. They were fitted to a pair of Sportiva Trango whossname boots, which are my day to day footwear.

i got these and have been very impressed so far - not as agressive as kahtoolas or pogus, but seem very comfortable and grippy.

My girlfiend commuted five miles a day in hers for two weeks and they are fine; perhaps weight is a factor Bluff?
