Hi All

I'm looking into doing this event at the start of April: http://www.fourinnswalk.org/

There's a route description and GR'd checkpoints, so I've plotted my route in Memory Map. Trouble is, some sections have very little description, whilst others seem to rely on local knowledge.

I intend to reccy the route before the day and wondered if any of you have first-hand experience of the event and, better still, a Memory Map Overlay that you could share.

Thanks and regards

Ian

Forgot to mention, I've already asked the organisers and all they have is the written information that's already published on the website. They'd like my tracklog once I've finished, which of course I'm happy to give.

Cheers

Looks an interesting walk. I haven't done it in one go, but I have done all the individual bits as parts of other walks.

It looks as though for the sections over Bleaklow and Kinder you can follow the Pennine Way. From Edale to Chapel you can walk up to Rushup Edge and then follow paths to the South of the road (marked on the map) into the town.

Chapel to Cat and Fiddle is a bit more problematic, as there are lots of different possible routes. I would suggest making your way over to the Erewood Resevoirs and following the valley up to the pub on the top.

Cat and Fiddle to Buxton is straightforward. Reverse the part of the route you came up from Erewood Resevoir to somewhere near Cheshire Bridge and follow the path down to Burbage on the edge of Buxton.

Hope that helps.

I've got an MMO for the 4 Inns route, and am 50% through creating a powerpoint to brief another team. I'll publish both when done .

Thanks Dave.

I covered the Torside to Snake Inn section yesterday. Got as far as the footbridge over the River Ashop but couldn't see an obvious crossing Fair Brook. I'll have another look at that next weekend.

Early conditions over Bleaklow Hill were grim: raining and the mist was down. It dried off Hern Stones but still no visibility until the return leg was started.

Hello,
I've done this for the past 4 years and I'm doing it again this year.
You have to be careful because you can't follow the Pennine way all the way over Black Hill as there is a check point at Hey Moss so you go off course then pick the Pennine way back up at Crowden Youth Hostel.
The next bit over Bleaklow is a bit more tricky. You follow the Pennine way up but what I usually do is when it starts to curve round leave it and head straight on a bearing to a dyke where I switch bearings to get to the airplane wreck. From here it is straight forward to Doctor's Gate. From Snake to Edale you kind of go up then straight over at the narrowest part of the plateau. Down into Edale is simple.
From Edale it's across to Barber Booth before going up Chapel Gate then crossing the main road to cut the corner on paths/lanes before rejoining the main road into Chapel.
Everywhere else is fairly simple and there are usually enough teams around you, at least over Black Hill.

What time are you aiming to do it in?

I covered Snake Inn to Barber Booth on Saturday - fantastic weather. Horrible trek back to Snake via Brown Knoll and Kinder Scout - never doing that again.

We were amining for 14 hours, but based on how we've permformed on the Torside to Barber Booth stretches, I think 16 hours is more realistic. We'll still pace for 14 hours and see were we're up to at Edale.

Team 75, start time 07:15.

Thanks for your help.

Yeah it's a weird walk because Edale is virtually half way distance-wise. But between Holmbridge and Edale are three really big hills in Black Hill, Bleaklow and Kinder.

After Edale is just the white peak, more gentile hills and no need for bearings (I know this is in the GPS section but I only use a compass over the open moorland).

Good luck for it though - if it's good weather you should be able to get a fairly decent time.

I used Dave A's gpx file and found it very useful. (Thanks Dave)

We finished the walk in 17hrs 44mins. Weather was perfect, event organisation faultless.

If you want a well run, long distance walk I'd thoroughly recommend this event.
