Can I clip it to a rucksack?

I'm after confirmation from an user as from reading all the info on the unit it comes with a lanyard and a carry case with a belt loop which really does not offer the ability you clip the unit to the shoulder strap of a rucksack.

Am I correct?

I stick mine in a pocket most of the time or attach it to my hipbelt.  I think it might be a bit big to hang off a strap.  Also you kind of need both hands to use it IMO so you would want some sort of quick release.  You could try attaching the carry case to your rucksack, I prefer to have it low down.

Cheers Steve, can I assume that the antenna is sensitive enough to keep tack whilst in it's case?

I don't like the idea of having the unit in my pocket or having it swinging around my neck on a lanyard.

If it works well within its case whilst attached to the hip belt of my ruck sack this could be an acceptable option.

i clip mine via mini crab to my pack shoulder strap. then it then lives in a shirt or jacket pocket or through a loop of shockcord on the pack strap.
i use flouro yellow dyneema through the lanyard eyes instead of the supplied one. gives far more flexibility as the unit is always attached to me somewhere.

Parky, sounds like an interesting set up, any chance of a photo showing how you have it attached to your shoulder strap and the dyneema through the lanyard eyes - I'm assuming it is set quite taught to stop it swinging excessively.

I must say that I have been researching mapping GPS for a number of months and have narrowed my choice between Garmin GPS 62s UK mapping and the Satmap Active 10 UK Plus - the Satmap is edging it for the screen size.

Unfortunately the MM 3500 has been eliminated due to SW bugs.

Berghaus does some neat little cases that are designed to clip onto most pack webbing and straps that'd work, the standard soft case supplied has a belt loop, but the unit itself doesn't have an integral clip and neither does the waterproof case.

i use a berghaus case attached to shoullder strap with no problems, its tough and  has a concealed cover for when it rains, the satmap has no problems maintaining a signal with the case shut, its a snug fit but i find it ideal, much better than the case sipplied with the active10.

Cheers for all the replies.

Can I confirm that we are talking about the Berghaus E-Case Small as per the below link.

loops attached to each side. double loop of shock cord on strap to hold unit securely.

add "string" however long you want. same with shockcord to store the unit wherever you want it.

add extra loops (larksfoot them onto existing loops) if wanted.

I keep mine in my pac and inside the case provided and it works no problem but I have to agree PA set up is great and I shall look into that before going out next time

Excellent idea using loops to a mini carabiner to prevent losing your Satmap. I actually lost mine from an unzipped camera case on a local walk in the first bad snows this winter. Three days later and with the help of a hired metal detector I managed to find it again and it fired up first time, not bad after being in a foot of snow with sub zero temps every night. Definately be trying this one out!

it may also be attached to my pack strap but carried in a jacket or shirt pocket

Found it ! 3 days lost in the snow sub-zero temps with only the sheep for company. Worked perfectly, I'll be more careful next time.

This is worth a look if your thinking of buying a Satmap.

And Cotswold price match. I bought one when they did the offer last year.

I have a self made set up made from an old belt clip from a Blackberry and glued with epoxy to the battery cover:

looks good.

i didn't go that route as i often use the unit in other places than a rucksack strap - pockets, clipped into a shoulder bag or belt.
