Tracklogs not seeing my GPS

I have just upgraded to V3 of Tracklogs mapping and have bought a Garmin etrex summit hc. Initially Tracklogs recognised the etrex and I managed to download a track onto the GPS however subsequently Tracklogs does not see the GPS at all.

I have tried this on a laptop and desktop, the laptop with Windows 7 and the desktop with Windows XP I have downloaded  what Garmin claim are the latest drivers but no joy.

Anyone had a similar problem or got any ideas ? It's driving me up the wall....

have you downloaded the latest version. you should be on version 3.15.01

i am unfamiliar with the GPS. does it use a serial cable and port? if so you will have to guess the port number. mine uses port 13. trial and error i'm afraid until you hit the correct number.

if it is a usb connection i haven't had any problems (XP) so regret i can't help further.

Thanks for info.

Tracklogs is version 3.15.01. The GPS is via a USB connection, thanks anyway

Shot in the dark - have you tried to vary the sequence you are using to connect ie connect GPS first before opening tracklogs or do you have tracklogs open and then connect gps?

I don't use tracklogs so cannot help much - sorry, but I'm sure Parky will be along soon.

Jim,

As far as I recall, serial to usb drivers in Windows seem to be attached to a specific USB point on your hardware. So which ever port you used on your laptop/PC when you installed the driver software, you should use now and it won't work on any other USB port other than that.

Try getting your serial to usb driver disk out and re-installing or check the manufacturer of the cable and try downloading the software from their site.

Having tried 2 different Garmin etrex summit hc units to check if the problem was with the unit or connecting USB cable and also having tried all of the various suggestions from Garmin for downloading drivers and checking that Garmin could see my gps online (which they couldn't), I have returned the gps to Handtec ( who have ben remarkably helpful and prompt with the returns).  I have managed to get my old laptop with a serial port back and will stick with my yellow etrex h. I know it's sad to let the technology win but life is just too short....
