What Handheld

Hi all, New member just joined 

Im after info on the best handheld i could get for £200 ish, Im waning to use it for my cycle rides. Also my son will be wanting it for geocatching..

I been looking at a Garmin Etrex 30, Would this do the job im wanting it for ?? Or is there a better one on the market ?

There is always better but for your purposes an Etrex 20 does the job as well, unless you need three axis compass and altitude. Guess not...

And better doesn't mean better in quality but in likes. I extremely like the Etrex 20,30 serie for it's very lightweight design and long battery life. An dakota or colorado is easier to operate but is heavier and shorter battery life. It's all what you think is important.

If you can stretch a bit more the SatMap Active 10 with all UK 1:50K maps included is on offer to LDWA members at £265 !
If you don't need the 1:50K maps, it is £225 including extra battery, but for £40 it would be daft not to take it (IMHO !)

Bike mount would add another £20 (they also give 40% discount to members).
I haven't yet got mine, but the deal was fantastic value (of course I spent even more on a few maps, etc) and I have a hiking mate who *highly* recommends it !

Do you want mapping or not?  That will be the big decision, and the deciding factor on cost.
