Anyone up in the Lakes next weekend?

I might have a free weekend from Friday 23 to Monday 26 March and, if so, I'm toying with the idea of camping at the NT site at Great Langdale.

Anyone else likely to be in the Lakes and fancy an amble on t'hill that weekend? I've nothing techie or strenuous in mind - just stravaiging around the Pikes or Crinkle Crags by day and an evening pint or two in the Sticklebarn.

Aah! Sorry Skip but I think I will be busy this weekend. Well, think I am but if I can get away into the Lakes say on the sunday I will.

Enjoy your traipsing around the area without a plan. Keep meaning to go stravaigning like you do but I am too much of a creature of habit. I always end up with a route in my mind as soon as I have an area to go to decided. Every change in direction I make on a whim then becomes a whole new route in my head as soon as my fet change their direction. Kind of down to knowing the Lakes too well I guess.

OK, Tipi, see how you go for the Sunday and let me know - we can sort a day walk by PM or by text (I'll PM you my mobe number).

I know what you mean about routes. More often than not I pre-plan walks (even if it's not done until I'm avbout to leave the tent) but other times I pick a start point and, maybe, a general direction then just head wherever the fancy (or the path) takes me.

I think the trick to genuine pointlessness is toavoid having a destination in mind - that way, if you find interesting diversions you know you will time to explore thoroughly because there isn't a timetable or a goal.

OK, no rush. As I said on Bennachie, I'm fairly flexible with dates ATM.

Was there this week-end just gone, firs time there. Busier than I thought but not cramped in the slightest. We pitched at the very end, where those wooden fences are to separate pitches, nice and quiet there. If there is 5(or 6 maybe) tents, you can effectively have the entire area for yourself.

My meagre contribution...

I can reach the ODG at 0930 on Saturday, but have to be back there before 1625. Even if I was on the spot in the evening, I'm not a pub-goer so you wouldn't have me as a drinking buddy.

Somewhat of a change of plan here, Paddy.

It's looking increasingly unlikely I will get up there this weekend. There is stuff my family want me to do here and I reckon I'm coming down with a cold. Instead, I'm thinking of driving up to the Lakes next week a few days before the BS3 meet. If so, I'll stay at Gt Langdale campsite and do a bit of stravaiging then travel over to Honister or wherever on Friday.

I'll go to the pub if there's a gang of people but not by myself as a rule - not really a drinker meself.

@ MS Glad you liked Gt Langdale. As campsites go, it's one of my favourites. It gets a bit crowded in the summer (especially near the loo blocks) and there doesn't seem to be a noise curfew. The drying rooms are dead handy if the weather's shite, BTW.
