A few folk are getting together on Friday 14 July with a view to camping overnight at the Balquhidder Braes Campsite.

The plan for the Saturday is to walk from somewhere near Edinample (or maybe just from the campsite, depending on parking situation) over Ben Vorlich, scramble up Stuc a Chroin, take in Beinn Each, & then down to one of the car parks at Loch Lubnaig. We'll hopefully have remembered to leave a car there earlier.

Simultaneously - don't say this isn't good value - there is a spot of wild camping going on on the hill on the Friday, for the more adventurous souls. That part of the operation is subcontracted to ptc*, who'll no doubt be along in due course.

;0)

Hopefully, one way or the other, the two groups will meet up somewhere, at some point, on the hill on the Saturday.

Saturday night - more camping, or away home, or whatever. I certainly intend to be in a pub, then a tent, with a drink.

The more the merrier, so if anyone's interested, post here & we'll get an idea of what's happening.

Sorry Scott wont make this one. Work is keeping me in the Smoke that weekend :(

That's a shame Elaina. Still, at least you'll avoid the midgies!

I'll be doing Stob Binnein and Ben More on the Friday afternoon (if I can escape work) so there's another option for anybody who's coming to this one.

Will be bringing my old man back up north that weekend but don't know if I will manage to get on the hills or not
05/07/2006 at 15:28
I'll be hopefully joining Mad Jim on Fri afternoon. Should be at the campsite by early evening, and if I'm no' there, I'll be in the pub! ;)

My plan is to stay until at least Sunday morning when I might do a short walk up a Munro before I head home. Weather/hangover dependent!

Be good to see you at some point Frank! ;)

Oh, and it would be good to see some new faces too! (Not that there's anything wrong with the old faces, like! ;o))

Scott I'm suffering so badly form the weekends attack of the midgies that I've taken today off work - the combination of antibiotics and antihistamines has made me no well :(

Will definately be thinking very hard about ever going camping in Scotland in June/July/August ever again!!!

That's not to say that I wouldn't find some way of coming and spending a weekend with all you lot :)

05/07/2006 at 16:12
I'm sure it's no consolation, Elaina, but you're not the only one suffering. The wean's Spanish midge bites have progressed into quite remarkable lumps.

He looks a wee bit like the bottom half of a dalek.

I'll have a look at the route, but I should be coming along (provided I can sort out a tent), arriving friday evening.

Elaina, you have my sympathy, I had a midge attack that left me dosed up with apparently ineffective antihistamines, antibiotics and covered in steroid cream. It's no nice. I hope you feel better soon.

Edit "He looks a wee bit like the bottom half of a dalek."- struth, sounds horrendous. I just get to look like I have a spotty blistering disease and fat legs...

Hope the wean feels better soon too Scott

Flaff, I'll lend you a tent if you want, but there may be a better option coming along. Watch this space.

I'm only mildly affected by last weekend's midgies, only a few bites on my legs and arms.

Thanks for the sympathy folks :)

Scott, maybe the wean & i should go and see if we can get in the next series of Dr Who :)

I'm sure if I flash my legs this weekend in Coniston there will be lots of people running away

Thanks Oot. I have a possible tent loan, but I will keep my eyes peeled.

<scratches head. Better option? starts watching space>

Hi all. I'm thinking of taking part in the wild camp on Friday night, doing a hill with some of the group on Saturday (depends what everyone is doing) and heading home Saturday evening.
05/07/2006 at 20:28
Hello I would like to come but need to know how long the walk is ? I don't want to hold anyone up except maybe in The Pub at night !! I have a tent which Flaff can share with me if she likes and if anyone needs a lift from the Falkirk area on late Friday afternoon I can help. Really looking forward to meeting you all at last I hope.

Hoping to make this as Stuc a' Chroin is a bit of a jinx hill for me having beaten me twice. However will depend on whether I survive Elaina flashing her legs this weekend ;-)

<awaits wrath of Elaina's midgie mood!> ;-)

I would like to make this one. It will be my first meet. Im far to drunk to say for definate at hte moment but I will post nearer the time. Quite fancy the camping thing friday night, I might clear off to Killin on the sunday for a bit of the Tarmachan if I can still be bothered.
I find that after a Munro bag, I go right of hill walking for about a week, then I start getting keen again.

Well, there's Oot's new faces, right enough!

Hill Tramper - I think ptc* has mentioned the wild camping on another thread, so we'll get something sorted between now & the 14th.

Olivia - we're not quite sure how long the walk will take, because it's just sort of being invented as we go along. Someone organised - if we can find them - will have a proper look & get some times & distances sorted out. You won't hold anyone up. That's my job.

Bazza - drunk is good. From what you say, you'll fit right in.

Scrambler Craggy - stop pretending you're a new face!

;0)

Good to hear from everyone. We'll get the arrangements fine tuned(ish) over the next week or so.

Following route is approx 15km with 4,600 ft of ascent:

Falls of Edinample Bridge NN601225
Bealach an Dubh Choirein NN621182
Ben Vorlich NN630189
Back to Bealach an Dubh Choirein NN621182
Stuc a' Chroin NN617175
Beinn Each NN601158
Ardchullarie More car park NN583137

This route as Scott mentioned earlier relies on leaving at least one car at the end to ferry folk back to the pub/campsite.

An interesting alternative might be to head back to the campsite via Sgiath a' Chaise (NN583170) and Meall nan Oighreag (NN579190). This would add approx 7km and 1,250m ascent.

PS Please do not confuse me for someone who is organised ;-)

Right, well just as soon as I've checked those figures with my bit of string/map interface...

...everyone can say hello to our official meet navigator and organiser, Scrambler Craggy!!!

Welcome aboard, mate.

Spoke to big Jon last night. He might be coming with his girlfriend. Problem is, he will have to come by public transport...

So... what's the best way to do that? Train to Perth, then bus or what? In other words, where do the buses go from?
