Hi Folks,

It's summer again, alledgedly, and it's time once again for an OM Meet in Scotland :)

Date: 24-27 August

Location: Cruachan Farm near Killin on the banks of the beautiful Loch Tay

Attractions: The magnificent Ben Lawers mountain range. 5 Munros connected by a high level ridge

For the more adventurous, the so called "Tarmachan Ridge" (Meall nan Tarmachan)

And many other Munros, Corbetts and lower level walks to suit all abilities

Watersports on Loch Tay, and umpteen cycle tracks.

Agenda: Pretty much the same as any other Meet. Meet in the pub on Friday to socialise and discuss the following day's walk/activity. Ditto that for Saturday. Don't feel that you have to do what the majority are doing. If you'd prefer just to sit in the sunshine all day, that's fine :)

The campsite is a couple of miles from Killin, but there is a bar and restaurant nearby. It would probably be advisable to book the campsite in advance.

Obviously, it would be nice to see some English and Welsh OM'ers there too, and also some of the Scottish folk who haven't been to a Meet yet.

Looking forward to seeing you there!!!

Grand, count me in, I'll be there...!! :)))

Btw, I didn't see it say anywhere in your post that the camp site is midge-free... - surely just an oversight on your part?!! ;O)

I'll be there. Any good wild camping sites nearby ;-)

I see the campsite takes dugs. So I'll be there - although I'm going to need a bigger tent. Something with a nice big porch.

Any thoughts on the matter, AT?

;)

I thought I'd heard something about a nice ditch running somewhere across the middle of the site?!! ;O)

LOL Matt!

Scott - I think you need advice from Man With A Big Tent - not been around for a while has he?

Should be there, assuming I'm still not waiting for house sale to go through

Hay folks, just up the road from me. I'll see what's doing at the time.

I've never done the Glen Lyon horseshoe at Invervar all in the one go, so that's maybe an option as well.
Lot's of camping spots up there :o)

Sounds good but i'll be wild camping.

It's a heck of a long way. I'll have to think about it too.

Count me in.

Furry boots are you camping btw, Mike?

I have a few cunning plans! One involves a field nearby that i've used before(100 yds from pub) and hidden by trees, the other is a pub garden that the landlady used to let you use(don't know if it's the same owners). Failing those anyplace within walking distance of a pint! If anybody else fancies a bit of SAS camping, you're welcome.
I might camp higher if anyone else fancies it. I just take a bad allergic reaction at forking out cash for a bit of ground to sleep on!

Does anybody know what the public transport's like, if any (probably from Edinburgh)?

Craig

I think the only option is from Edinburgh to Stirling and then the bus to Killin.

There might be a couple of folk coming over from Edinburgh, you could always try to cadge a lift

At the risk of inviting the curse of my Iritis...... (I remember what happened last time I said I go to the August Bank Holiday Scottish meet....)

I'm hoping I'll be able to come to this one. :o)

I will get on with chatting up my friends with tents.

Thanks oot. I'll check out the options closer to the date. I'm keen to go if I can make it.

it'll be my first OM meet after lurking around here silently for the past year or so... ;-)

Well done oot, the lurkers are starting to be flushed out ;-)

Kate - go on, you know you want to, if only for a re-match with Scottish rock! At least there won't be any ice to slip on...will there? ;-)
28/06/2007 at 22:20
Craig - No worries. We'll figure out some way of getting you up here :)

Thanks for the invite oot. This time is right in with what I planned to be my first Scottish trip with my tent.
So it really does fit in. I'll be there!

Sounds like there'll be lots of names for me to remember on my 1st OM meet!
