Hello all. Any southern-based OMers care to join me for a good walk on January 19th and/or 26th? Location's up for grabs but must be train-able. Possibly Box Hill-ish or maybe some of the Ridgeway near Princes Risborough.

26th is good for me.  19th I'm in brecon learning how to safely not get lost.

How about this route?

Admittedly its 28 miles but they aren't really real hills (trust me, I've recce'd then).

28 miles... maybe a slightly cut down version thereof?

just a point. trains to gomshall are every two hours.

what sort of distance did you have in mind?

Looking at Windscale's route - if the twisty loop bit (where it says 4,5 on the map) were cut off I reckon that would take it down to 20/22 miles or so. Which I'd be happy with. Would have to check how early trains go from London to Gomshall though.

Is there honey still for tea?

I mean - is that absolutely fantastic tea shop still there in Gomshall? We used to get taken there very occasionally for treats when visiting my sister's boarding school near Cobham.

No idea. I hope so! And what are you doing on this thread if you're not planning a trip over for a walk, hmmmm?

A South East meet?... Ooh will there be cucumber sandwiches and tea?... <runs>

Earliest train from London to Gomsall gets there at 8, which would be about the time one would want to start a 20-mile walk in January. And when we finish we can have cucumber sandwiches, rum or whatever

20 miles sounds good.  Not too keen on cucumber myself - it is the vegetable of the devil.  Wouldn't rum sandwiches make the bread a bit soggy?

return trains from gomshall to clapham junction are 13:53, 14:04, 15:53, 16:04, 17:53

So, 0800 at Gomshall station on the 26th?

Bump

Apparently 0830 at Gomshall.

(oh my first post)

Dammit... would have been well up for another meet this way... recently (last week) did the NT 8 mile round Boxhill which took a few hours in the sunshine which was nice for a January

Will have to keep an eye out on here for any more... currently trying to get fit after a motorbike accident so out and about as much as possible, have dog, only limited use of a car but willing to blag one off random family members if there's something good going on

I'm back off to the Beacons next weekend but I've not planned anything for this weekend but I think I should get out.  Anybody in the SE up for a bit of a jaunt Saturday or Sunday?

Probably nothing much this weekend but give me a shout in March.
