Hello from the Beacons

Hey everyone,

Just registered and thought I'd say hi, and try to find some like minded hiking comrades!

I'm lucky enough to live slap bang in the middle of the Brecon Beacons, though I've only really gotten into hiking in the past few months, so there's a bit of catching up to do! I've been checking out gear, and it's all a bit overwhelming, but I'm doing ok with my new boots and old clothes for the moment.

I've been trying to find some local groups to join for some company on walks but no such luck yet, any tips?

Welcome to OM. Just spent the day up on Merthyr Common, chilly this morning but lovely and sunny all afternoon.

I'm just outside Cardiff, lucky you to live in the middle of the Beacons!

If you're looking for guided walks, the Brecon Beacons Park Society may be a good place to look, but I don't know about their demographics. There's also various Ramblers groups in South Wales.

otoh, I'll try to remember to put up a post on here next time I'm out for a walk on the Beacons and you're welcome to join me.

Just come home from a 15 mile jaunt on the Black Mountains, we had some hill fires last week and it's still smouldering, some parts look a bit volcanic!

Thanks for the advice Kate, I'll look into those places. Not having much luck finding people around my age but that's ok. Being car-free makes it a bit of a hassle too...
