Hello I'm Townmouse and recently signed up and working my way around the site.

Hi TM, unless you have a visual impairement I guess you mean seeking walking companion,  If you DO have a visual impairement, what form is it?

I probably can't help with the walking much as I am based in Guernsey and don't get over to the UK as much as I would like, although I am in Snowdonia and Scotland over the easter period.

Good luck in your search, keep an eye out for the meets as I am sure you will find interesting folk at these.

 Cheers

Welcome Townmouse, have a look in "Meets and Partners" and see what's doing, there are a few meets going on, you just have to ask and you will get a reply at some stage .

What area are you in or interested in walking in ?.

15/02/2012 at 12:47

Hi Steve D

Thanks for the reply; no I haven't a visual impairment I am finding it difficult editing my profile details as part of the screen is covered by other information boxes.  May be a fault my end?

I have joined the Backpackers Club but I was the only one logged in at lunch time? what's that all about.

I cycled round Jersey last Easter with my ex BF and thoroughly enjoyed the experience; how tolerent Jersey drivers are!

Hope that I do find a companion soon! I can walk on my own easily enough but life's too short to be on your own .

I know it can take a while to get your photo accepted as they have to check to see what it is of, there are others in here ( somewhere ) that may be able to advise you with your "Information Boxes" I am using Firefox and it doesnt let all the adverts through, I used to use IE and it was annoying with all the adverts that went across the screen .

Hi Alexander

Sorry I didn't answer you original question; I live in South Wales but prepared to walk anywhere, as long I have time to get to the location.  I'm off to walk the Cornish costal walk the last week in March - first week in April.  Its rather a lose break i'm not being strict about the walk as most of them will be circular walks from the book I have '50 walks in Cornwall'.  I'm taking the car, my new 2nd hand tent which I'm pleased with and all the normal camping gear ;o)

Hi again, I got your pm, I am in the Highlands of Scotland but there are a few folk in here in the South Wales area, Ive never been there myself but know lots of folk in here go there on a regular basis, I'm sure you will get a few replies and suggestions of where to walk once folk realise where you are. It's a popular area. It may take a while for folk to pick on this tread as some only go online at home and others at work

Thanks. Will do it if the weather is ok. If not will just wait until the summer as don't want to do it if its misty and can't enjoy the views
Your not the only one that struggles in here at times Townmouse , if you click the "see" above it will take you to that thread, leave a message at the bottom for Maria if you are interested and she will get back to you when she can ( I only know its in Wales ), hopre this helps, there are other meets on the go depending if you want ( or  can ) travel to them

It's about backpacking rather than on-line chats.  Go to backpackersclub.co.uk, click on "Diary" at the top of the page and see whether any of the meets listed there suit you.

Jersey is OK but not as good as the real thing (Guernsey is soooo much better! )

as Alexander says there are loads of folk that use your area on here, you should find someone soon.  You are welcome to accompany me if I'm doing anything solo, but that is usually Scotland or the Alps for me.  I tend to spend most of my time in the UK with Gold and Silver DofE group, I have been on forum meets but not any of the OM ones so far, they seem a friendly bunch.

Oh, that's a coincidence - me and a friend will be tramping the north Cornwall section of the SWCP that week too. Are you camping? If so, where?

Welcome to OM, by the way. Have a look in the Meets and Partners section - there's usually some meets with spaces spare and it's a great way toi meet like-minded people.

Hi,

I am still relatively new myself and they dont seem a bad bunch

I gather a few of us live in easy ish commute of the Brecon Beacons- ie South Wales/Gloucestershire.

The meets are good  opportunity to meet the crowd and enjoy the company.

I know much of the Cornish Coast, especially St Ives to Lizard as my old area and being biased I rate it all.

Who? Us lot on OM or 40sWalkersnorth?

I'd certainly go along with that. IMO the whole of the SWCP in north Cornish from Hartland Point right down to Cape Cornwall provides some of the finest walking in southern Britain.

I love it all, but especially the more remote sections such as around Morwenstowe, south from Crackington Haven, between Trebarwith and Port Gaverne, from Porthcothan to Mawgan Porth, the tin-mining area around St Agnes, and the really wild stretches west of St Ives. On the other hand, much of Cornwall's south coast fails to hit my spot.

Skip - Instead of hijacking this one I started a new one re 40's walkersnorth

Back to the thread - Townmouse if you fancy day trips, would be happy to join you and sure others would - just post what you are planning and you will probably get takers

16/02/2012 at 12:05

I've been attempting to sign in on the 40's walkersnorth but it must be our server here; i'll have to sign up later

Trouble is Chewie I'm still learning to use map/compass and tbh use to rely on my ex BF and therefore haven't the confidence to walk any takers ;op

I'm more of a sheep i guess when it comes to walks but that is very likely to change this year! ;o)

I'm looking forward to Cornwall as I need some time out and find out what I want out of life etc so good weather would improve the break.

TBSkip, yes I am camping out; where? as I've said its a rather loose break for me with no targets to speak of so where ever I pitch my tent rather than lay my hat!

I can't read a map either TM , some of the folk < boys and girls > on here have been on courses ( I'll put a link in later ) I'm sure they would give you and idea and advise if you saw them at a meet.

The next OM Navigation Skills training course will be run on Saturday/Sunday March 31st/April 1st 2012. Same price as previous courses and same venue. It is definitely going to run. Three people have booked places already. Contact me via the thread or pm me if you need any further information. Regards Iain

Afternoon Alexander yes my ex was and is a fantastic at it reading this and that.  Last summer watched a series with three celebs who didn't have any nagivation guides apart from looking at trees, sun, lichens etc I really enjoyed and impressed! As long as they have patience i'll be fine!

I just go wandering around in an area that I know and not in bad weather, I'll tend to wait for clearer days so I can take some photos, I dont know Iain but know a few on here have been on his map and winter survival courses/ weekends/ days. Some of the folk that have been talking to you in here are bound to make a comment, but I'll leave it up to them .
