In terms of colours (no really)

oh oh, it's that nutter with the strange user name again! Only me!

Now, I'm not talkling about litter or green electricity here (though I feel very strongly about these matters!) but colours. Does anyone else try to make sure that they don't wear colours that are too bright or too unnatural when in the outdoors. Don't get me wrong, I don't walk around in cammo gear or anything, just avoid buying/wearing colours that would make me an eyesore.

Any of you guys do this, or are we all from the go-faster fad colour school of thought? Any red socks LOL.

I don’t give a flying monkey’s about the colour of the kit I wear. If can get something like a technical jacket in a sale the last thing I am concerned with is the colour.

The only time I really considered it was when I was buying a tent. I bought a green one to blend in a little should I take it wildcamping.

Rest of the time - never considered it at all. If I like gear I will get it.

Oh and we all know that you don't care about the colour of gear John, we've seen THOSE boots... ;-)

I know what you mean about the sales. I've just got £20 off some Rohans but they're orange [hangs head in shame] and a jacket in a sale which is red [Head remains hanging]! lol

I like bright colours. I hate the plum,, green, beige combo's. Give me dayglo anytime.

Have you seen the price of THOSE boots in CCC? :)
27/07/2003 at 10:19
Oh yes...a bargain aren't they!

nope. i bought an orange tent which really isnt going to blend in with anything. it does however make the inside alot brighter. ive also got a "tequila" coloured jacket. if its in the sale and any colour except pionk then i'll buy it!

Trying despirately to imagine what a tequila coloured jacket looks like.

I've got a vodka coloured jacket but it doesn't keep me warm... or dry.

Actually I can't find it now!

I like cammo when I'm up in the clock tower...

I really don't care , if it's cheap I'll buy it what ever the colour.

I prefer my tents to be in either brown or green. Long ago, in the days when nearly all backpacking tents were bright orange so that they could be found easily by mountain rescue (or after the pub), I remember the NT charged brown and green tents less than the garish ones at their Wasdale & Langdale campsites to try to reduce the visual pollution.

But, for clothing, packs and other equipment - the brighter the better in general!

To be honest I'd prefer people to wear more muted colours on the high mountains. There was that line about 'visibility for safety' but that's what your orange survival bag is for, no?

When you can see people on Tryfan in bright yellow and you're on the Carneddau it is a little annoying.

Hmm, never REALLY thought about it too much.

But then again, I'm a bit colour blind so see things differently to most of you anyway. (Cue jokes about dress sense / traffic lights etc etc)...........

I'm colour blind too but it's hard to miss five day-glo wind shirts going past :)

If people dressed a little more conservatively, the hills wouldn't seem as busy as we wouldn't notice as many people

Honestly Dan what a load of bollox. I,m sorry some people several miles away annoyed you by their choice of clothing. Who are you? The fashion police or something?
Your last statement is an absolute classic. Can I suggest you stop going into the hills and reduce the numbers by one.

Got to agree with you Philip.

Everyone's got the same right to be on the hill, what they wear is a matter of personal choice. Not everyone has the same aesthetic sense.

Maybe you should address your complaints to the people who make and sell the gear Dan and tell them what colours they're allowed to use.

Just had a worrying thought, I've got blue eyes. Do they have to be changed for eyes of a more muted and conservative colour?

Sorry Dan but it was a tremendously pompous phrase (you missed "harrumph!" off the end).

Maybe we should all wear camoflage and creep around so people can't see us at all.

SAS school, here I come.

Erm... Where is the SAS school?

Bloody camoflage!
