The Duddon Valley campsite - Turner Hall Farm - just up the road from Seathwaite in the Lake District. Good pub, the New Inn, just down the road, basic facilities, but a nice field with rocks in, great views and it's much, much quieter than the Ambleside / Windermere / Coniston side of things even on Bank Holiday weekends.

Someone's vegetable patch in Bolivia on the final day of the Illampu Circuit trek, when we ran out of daylight and had to just stop, anywhere, and put up a tent. Ever tried stealth camping with an MSR XGK, the original 'I'm a Jumbo jet coming in to land' flame-throwing expedition stove? Interesting.

Also, the spot beneath the Calzada Pass in Peru where I put up the tent, solo, as it got drk and woke up overshadowed by a wall of snow-capped peaks - superb.

our old faithful
the campsite at Argentiere, a couple of miles up the valley from Chamonix
small, family run, excellent facilities, great pizza van on a tuesday and thursday.
pitch at the bottom of the site to get the first early sun as it rises over the ridge andilluminates the aiguille verte area with brightness.
Point your tent door towards Chamonix and you get the view of Mont Blanc while you're lying in your pit with an early morning cup of tea.
Got to stop now,the vision is too real.
I'll be there in 3 weeks
can't wait

Behind the Kingshouse in Glen Coe. Pitch well and then go for many a pint. The best bit is when it starts raining and you get to see all the other folks tents floating by. Cruel, yes, but it is very entertaining! It is just too tempting for people to pitch on the nice low lying, green and comfy looking patches of ground by the burn....

Oooh, another one - Stromness campsite. Put up a nice, seemingly overkill 4 season mountain tent (in summer) and then watch as the wind builds up! Never seen so many tents destroyed in one night (and it wasn't even that rough by Orkney standards!)

I don't really like commercial campsites, the Fisherground one in Eskdale is okay as far as they go - relativly quiet, decent facilities and a few pubs within staggering distance. Glen More campsite is hell-on-earth for those who, like me, have an aversion to screaming brats.

Eastnor Deer Park, as I had a crappy Eurohike tent, and other people had TNF, and Mountain hardwear tents, and they laughed at me. I put up my tent really well, as the wind was picking up. They obviously didn't use any guyropes, because they virtually lost their entire tents! I was the only one left with a flysheet.

Also the Lion Inn, at Blakey, as it is a pub (expensive but good), with big meals. I know a 17 stone hulk of a man, who couldn't finish their big meal.
