David Beckham's 26

So what does everyone do for a living?

I found out this morning that David Beckham is 26. In truth, I've always known this, but in an attempt to still imagine all public icons as older than I am, I had totally been in denial.

For some reason, this morning was different and I managed to link 'David Beckham is 26' i.e. one year younger than I am to 'I'm unlikely to be voted public icon of the year in the next 12 months'. So, it got me thinking about jobs (tenuous link, huh?) and how/why people get into them.

And I was just wondering what people on this forum did for a living?

Ok
I'll start you off
I'm a Fisheries Enforcement Officer
with the Environment Agency
ie
anybody found Tickling and Groping (Yorkshire Byelaw 3E, made under Salmon and freshwater Fisheries Act 1975)
will be prosecuted

By that I presume you mean fish that are in public waterways?
Well if you really want to know
I am a Second Year Undergraduate Student at the University of Glamorgan in Pontypridd, and I am studying a soon to be extinct degree, which is Bsc(hons)Environmental Science, after that well who knows I have considered the Army or British antartic Survey or similar!

I am a teacher in real life but in my fantasy life I would be an Underwater Naturalist - I already hold the PADI U.N. certification and I care deeply about the welfare of coral reef creatures.

Disregard my previous email!
Just heard my request to transfer functions has been agreed.
I'm now an Environment Protection Officer.
Tickle all you like but no fly tipping!

Me.... Well I'm one of these IT techie geeks that makes computers work for a living. It's all very boring but it helps pay for my toys :)

(For those in the know..... I'm an IT contractor so I'm self employed and move around companies doing fixed term contracts. Windows, Macintosh & media are my specialist subjects....)

I'm working in London as that's where the money is (...call me a prostitute/mercenary, I don't care...) However, the long term plan is to make my money & then bugger off to live near the hills so I can get a Border Collie & join SARDA.

<Yawn>...... WAKE UP!!!!!!!!

PC Hardware engineer. Basically means that when some fool pours coffee/tea/hot chocky all over his or her laptop then its up to me and my cohorts to get it fixed.

Like Mark said, its dull but it pays for my petrol to/from the hills.

I am an Avionics Engineer in the Royal Air Force. Used to fix Radars and communications equipments as fitted to Tornado F3s. Also used to work on stuff so secret I didn't have a clue what it did (well almost, but it does explain the standard of some of my work!)

Currently an Instructor of new recruits into the RAF. I teach the basics of Systems fault diagnosis using an antiquated equipment that was once fitted to Jaguars, and used to carry out bombing runs as well as basic navigation for the pilots.

Used to work horrible shifts, but now I have a lovely 8:30 to 4:30 (ish) job five days a week, this means I can almost have a social life and certainly get weekends to myself!

I am an IT Manager currently in Edinburgh but relocating to Stirling very soon. This means I get the bonus of decent pay *and* living near the hills! I refused a massive pay rise a couple of years ago on the grounds I had to move to London!

In my previous lives I have also worked in engineering (sewerage systems in the Lake District so got something of a background in environmental stuff!) then moved onto being a barman in Glasgow whilst being a student (geology and archaeology), then came the work as an expedition photographer/radio officer/anthropologist and zoologist (which involved some bizare crash courses in anatomy of crocadillians amongst other things), then an archaeologist (specializing in the dark age cultures in Northern Scotland) before deciding that all the interesting jobs paid poo and I was in a silly ammount of debt so switched to IT!

I am also 26 so feel that is a pretty good CV all things considered!

Dave Shields! Hello there. So you are still lurking behind the outdoorsmagic scenes. Good to hear from you again.

Sounds, er, hot and sandy. Still, don't complain. After all, you could be scaling Moel Siabod of a wet Sunday morning.

I am Head Caretaker at Wakefield College. I also read with interest the threads posted about things people got up to at School. They are not big and they are not funny(well some of them are) as i have to clear the *#;+" up afterwards. I'm not saying I was an angel at School, but doing the job i do now makes me realise what we put our caretaker and Teachers through. Please forgive me Mr Dyson, they made me shit on your desk when we broke in!. Btw Sally, Beckham was born on 2.5.75 Just to clear things up for you.

Ok I'm about 7 years older than Beckham and many £s poorer.
I'm also a Business Systems Analyst supposedly working in Sheffield, but spending too much time down south at the moment in Staines.

As much as I hate Man U...The boy Beckham is a marvelous player! He has the touch of God I believe. And good entertainment value too...

Beckham may have the touch of God but what people tend to forget is that football is a /team/ sport..... without a decent team behind him, he would be nothing (he can only use his right foot too)!

Also, the 26 refers to the number of his brain cells used for activitites other than footie. As a native norf London gooner, I will not have Man U on the site ;-)
