Hi Trevor answer to the first article, I always carry my personal messenger SPOT. At the end of the day when I have found a place to put up my tent I press the OK button and that send a email back to my wife that tells her where I am located and that's all is well with the world. If I get into trouble and need help I would press the 911 button, which then sends out a message to Huston Texas who then would send out the rescue service, No worries. This thing works as proved last May when a walker on the TGO challenge made a 911 call at 0230hrs and by first light a helicopter was taking him to Fort William hospital. cant be bad.
