Your point being what?

Above your heid, obviously.

Columbia have chosen shops based in England why do you feel thats a problem?

No participating agents outside of England.

Although I'm sure non-English folk won't be turned away - we do have a few live here out of choice.

As someone who lives in England but further north than some parts of Scotland the participating stores aren't doing me no favours either - but hey, if I won one it'd just be something else to put on ebay.

Lets get our shoulder chips out & find stores only in Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales running competitions  - great sport!

edit typo - spelt Wales with lower-case W.  Bound to upset someone

Is it the first to claim their jacket at the stores listed? Or is it still on a drawn system?

I don;t mind driving over to Settle if there's a free jacket in it for me?

I have absolutely NO IDEA why Columbia have chosen to only select the shops they have but on quick inspection they all appear to be one man bands or very localised tiny chains. It might be the case that Columbia have decided to help these shops with a bit of marketing i.e. a reason to go in-store or they've just got these shops as new outlets and want to get some low cost marketing in.

If you've truly got your heart set on a 1 in a 100,000? chance of winning one of these jackets then why don't you do what necessary to qualify if not then errr shut up about it!

When I was last in the Lakes Stage Coach was running a decent promotion. I took a voucher but when I tried to use it down south they said it wasn't valid..... such is life!

Shewie, the way I read it is that the first 2 people presenting the voucher on the required weekends get the jackets.
Sounds like a recipe for a riot to me!

"Sounds like a recipe for a riot to me!"

Perhaps they thought that's just what would happen if the offer was available in the "hinterlands".

For all those living in the colonies Trail has put a statement on its Facebook page regarding Colombia's selection of retailers hosting this competition.

Basically, Columbia's position is we live in a free society, there our jackets and we'll bloodily well do what we like with them.

The Facebook comments are well worth a read... as the first is it "racist" comment has been made.

and Bedouin, you wouldn't be seen dead in a £195 Columbia jacket
23/03/2012 at 19:32
I wouldn't but not for the reasons your alluding to!

I'm not offended. Columbia gear is shite, anyway. We Taffs know it and don't buy it so I can't blame them for their marketing strategy.

Just think it's pretty poor that national websites and national magazines are leading with a very regional specific competition, which is of no use to many of the readers in England, and even less so in the rest of the UK. Even if there was a Scottish retailer in for example Edinburgh, that's no good to anyone living in Inverness, or Skye, etc.

If you are near one of these retailers though, good luck to you.

Sorry, Jester,

I'm normally first to condemn 'geographical incorrectness' but this seems to be just a promotional campaign for a restricted number of shops in areas without lots of 'outdoors shop' provision (Chilterns, Quantocks, N Yorks) - many areas of england, including the well provisioned NW, Lake district, and SE of England are just as neglected as the 'occupied nations'...

It's almost as bad as the BRITISH Mountaineering Council only supporting climbers and walkers in ENGLAND and WALES.  Wouldn't it be fun of the MCofS called itself the MCofB - but only until independence !

Sorry Ron, but I'm pretty sure I said this

I agree with you entirely that much of England is neglected. This has to be one of the worst thought out promotions I have seen since a local woman won a trolley dash round the local pound shop.
