bloody annoying grangers ad taking up FAR too much of the screen in an excessively persitent manner.

granger's is getting closer and closer to the manufacturer's bin.

(i thnk most people who view this at work - the huge majority? - have no choice over what browser to use nor able to do anything about it)

Yes it's a pain Parky seems especially annoying when replying to a post keeps popping up.

and really feckin annoying if you are not in full screen mode.

mmmm. i wonder if it will make this site unusable on a netbook, ipad or phone?

Very annoying viewing on a phone!

It's quite amusing that Graingers think that having such an annoying and irritating ad will really spur people to buy their products.
It's obtrusiveness is actually making the forum very user unfriendly.

I wonder if these companies realise the adverse effects ads such as this one can have?

Is it the companies, or their advertising agencies?  Admittedly, if I engaged an advertising company to work for me, I'd carefully check their work before it was foisted on the public...

Of course, I have no idea what advert you're talking about (FF + AdBlock + FlashBlock...)

Great ad, not! . Never bought any, now never will.!

The most annoying ad on OM yet!

Having just enabled Flash and disabled Adblock to see the advert I can't see what all the fuss is about; the forum has to make money somehow....and the colours are really nice too.

I don't think the ad folks realise the negative effect these ridiculously annoying ads have.  At home I don't have a problem as I just use adblock but at work, these ads render sites such as OM completely and utterly unusable.

Wow, employers that pay you to view OM, gizza job, i can do that.

Can't resist it... there is another point of view!

Other products available eh Paddy??! Just like the BBC keeps saying on TV, LOL!

I wouldn't have posted that if this thread hadn't appeared. Something that other 'annoying ad' people might like to consider before doing the same!

I dont mind static ads but these scrolling/enlarging ads are very annoying. Dont people realise how annoying it is when these ads are purposefully placed in such a way that you are bound to move your mouse over and activate all the time.

To me its like junk mail

03/06/2012 at 20:37
Yep, seriously irritating.  It's certainly putting me right off that company's products.  I do wonder if there's some deep, subconscious benefit from the ads - we won't forget them, so maybe that's the idea?
03/06/2012 at 22:07

Dont want to get too excited but I think it's gone. Can anyone confirm this ? I've been waving the mousepad around and there's no sign of it. Please let it be true

03/06/2012 at 23:03
False alarm, the bloody thing is still there, sorry.
04/06/2012 at 00:13

It wouldn't be so bad if once you had closed the ad at start, it didn't keep 'popping' up on other pages.

That's the thing that feckin annoys me the most!!

I'll not buy Granger's if I can avoid doing so. As in, I can't get a cleaning product I need from somewhere else, I'm almost sure I can.

I know OM needs advertising to keep going, but some ad's just go over the top and feck peeps off!!

Hi guys. Just so you know, the commercial team are aware of this and it's something they'll definitely take into account before scheduling any similar ads in the future. I've also asked for the settings to be tweaked, so it appears less frequently to individual users and I'll see if it's feasible for it to be limited to one appearance per user session.

Ultimately, it's not in our interests to alienate anyone. I think people generally appreciate that OM's a commercial site and it it weren't, it wouldn't exist. It's a fine line between attracting attention and attracting the wrong sort of attention.

I don't think there's any sinister 'all publicity is good publicity' undercurrent here - I don't think we're that clever or sinister to be absolutely honest...I know I'm not anyway.

And with that, I'm off out into the Peak District sunshine.
