Grrrrr! OM is killing my PC!

I use a number of different forums, which themselves use a variety of software at the back end. OM is the *only* forum I have continual issues with.

Just now, as I often find, it's sloooooooowwwwwww. If I have multiple tabs open on the forum in IE8, then OM uses a straight 100% of my PC's CPU.

My suspicion is that it's using ads that are not simple images, but flash and such, and that there is waaaaay too much client-side activity going on. The web is supposed to be all about thin client...

Please, please, OM staff sort the stuff out!

There was certainly an issue with the 'snowflake' advert a while back, as it accumulated animated snowflakes if you left the page alone, to such an extent that it gobbled all your CPU animating them.

The answer for me was to download Firefox and AdBlock and FlashBlock.  Now I don't see adverts or pointless Flash animations unless I want to.

Same here, Chris.

I used to open multiple forum tabs and then read them in turn but, as you say, more than about 4 soaks up 100% of the CPU.  OM is the only website that I use that does this.

I've tried an ad blocker but it didn't seem to work - I could still see that bloody Lufthansa advert at the top of the page.

Maybe that's why OM advertising revenue is declining, 'cos most of us have installed adblocker!

Well, joking aside, it's something that Magicalia should consider very seriously.
