Hi All,

Hope all is well

Just checking in to say hello.

It's just coming to 4 months since we moved, I have had only 1 trip over here so far as was back home in Ireland for a few weeks last month (got to 2 OM meets) but have a 3 day trip in the Rockys coming up soon.

The job is going well, and the social scene is alright but living 10 hours drive from decent mountains is a bit of a pain and I do miss decent bacon

I am looking forward to the winter as for cross country skiing and Wild camping.

Be good,

Stephen

Anything must be better than Belgium!

I dunno, I'm thinking chocolate must be better in Belgium than the US. Beer?

Just back from Brugge and can confirm the beers (lots of choice) and chocolates are very good - better than I have sampled in US for sure.

Hi Kate,

Chocolate here is crap but Lesley Ann has procured a supply of Green and Blacks

The domestic beer is pure muck but there are pleny of very good Micro brews and European beers available   Blue moon and Bells Oberon come to mind.

We have spent a lot of time travling over here, Detroit, Ann Arbor, Traverse City, all cool towns.

One problem is we live a few miles forma town of 50,000 folsk and there is no taxis so we take turns dirving, everyone here drinks drive which is a bloody disgrace.

Plan to go to Chicago in a few weeks

Yo, Plastic Yankee,

Got used to C&W music, line dancing and eating Ronald Mc's morning, noon and night?

You got your orange, kevlar jacket for walking in the woods outside of winter season?

You might need to get a red tent, ( talking to huey on the great white telephone)

 Laterz, Dude.

Hiya Husky,

Yep, I have plenty of C&W CDs in the car and I am off to a barn dance tonight with my Banjo around Ned Flanders Shed

I will stay well clear of the woods in hunting season.

Be good.

Hi folks,

Just checking back in from the colonies.

It's good to see the Madman bunch did not get in to power.

Have some decent trips in the Rockies and Michigan under my belt now, its very nice but too many damn trees but once you get out of the tress its amazing

Off to Canada in a clue of weeks and then back to the Lakes and Scotland for Xmas.

Have met up with folk from Backpackinglight for 4 trips, really nice folk but no way can the Drink like OM folk

I say I have only worn my rain gear for a few hours since moving over.

Came across a moose recently but have been lucky enough to dodge the bears and banjo players.

Slainte,

Stephen

Du Druit. LOL at banjo players......... need to go central west

BPL's don't like open spaces!! Feel at 'home' in trees. ULW gear can't cope in the open.

As for drinking as much  Your in the US fer jazzus sake !!!!!

 Their "beer's" like "vir**n's p**s.

Hey Husky,

I was surprised they do have some half decent micro brew beer if you go looking for it, but the normal stuff tastes worse than London tap water.

As for the Bpl folk, there was a guy on the trip with us on Friday and his pack weighed about as much as my day pack would in the lakes, I am sure he had Cuben under crackers and a carbon fibre half toothbrush

I must say the Bpl guys I have hiked with are the salt of the earth and would happily invite them to an OM meet on our side of the pond, but would make they drank beer shandies to keep up in Clachaig.

Hopefully see you at Xmas as hoping to make back to Erse to see the parentals for 4-5 days after the new year.

Yep, you gotta go looking for the 'good' beers.

Would the BP's cope with normal Erse conditions?

Be fun to see how the UL gear stood up.

If I can we'll meet, na prab. May have to do a bit o jugglin, depending on dates.

Sure we might figure something out buddy, I could do with a weekend in the rain and wind
11/11/2012 at 22:22

 Wind and rain ?

I thought you where talking about coming to Erse ?

12/11/2012 at 15:42
It never rains much in Ireland
12/11/2012 at 19:20

True, only @ 348ish days per year.

Can get a bit windy on the odd occasion.
