Tom, I think I know what the problem is - you're simply too handsome and studly for the site... Or it might be something to do with Mac MSIE 4.5. Hopefully the brilliant tech department at Magicalia will sort it out soon.

Cheers

Jon

Or maybe not

don't knock the nice people, Clive
I sent an email saying that I couldn't access the new site from work. ( I was trying purely as an experiment you understand)
I got a reply straight away saying a fix was being uploaded that very moment. it was and now I can, ( or could, I wouldn't of course)

They try very hard, really they do. One of the problems is that we've introduced the new layout across six different sites simultaneously - a stroke of genius, but unavoidable - so while there are problems which are common to all the sites, there are also individual bugs. It al means that the tech team are under a lot of pressure, so all I can ask you to do is buy them beers and try to bear with us.

I reckon there's a bug with Mac MSIE 4.5 and the new site. That's what Tom is using and I also think it's the root of a problem where AOL users on Macs don't have a scroll bar... I suspect the AOL software uses a modded version of IE 4.5 in its Mac incarnation. Upgrading to IE 5.0 or using IE 5.0 instead of the AOL browser should sort it out, but I'm hoping the tech department will be able to sort it out properly before long. If you do have a problem with the site, please mail: support@outdoorsmagic.com

Ta.

Jon

Update: tech' say that the problem is Mac IE 4.5 which they've now fixed on a temporary basis (touchwood). Means you should now have a scroll bar Tom, but the drop downs won't work... Oh and your fridge will self destruct in 20 minutes from now.

Don't underestimate the power of the Boy Wonder of the tech department. He may wear tights under his jeans, but he has awesome powers... Oh well...

Well seeing as IE6 is out, you may as well download that one instead of 5. Apparantly it changes pictures automatically, sp that they fit the browser. Wow. Because we sooooooooooooooooooooooo needed that!
11/09/2001 at 09:31
Not for Macs it's not. Or if it is, it's all happened without me noticing...

The IE6 feature to change image sizes is quite useful. If you've got a digital camera that takes pictures at huge resolutions then it automatically rescales it so it fits the size of your screen which is quite useful for those people who don't have any graphical programs to resize images for them. Don't knock it IE6 is more stable than netscape and it works. Some of those tools which sound daft at first thought are in actual fact not all that daft afterall!

Oh and btw the reason it took a while for it to start working for you is that we told Jon that we'd fixed it which we had we just hadn't uploaded it but it went up last night so all should be well again.
11/09/2001 at 09:55
It sounds great Robin, but it still isn't available for Macs... On the Mac though, IE5 is still a vast improvement on IE4.5 anyway.

11/09/2001 at 22:17
But it's still just another money grabbing thing ennit? I mean do they really ned to have Windows3.11, 95, 98, 2000, and ME?!!! I mean Windows 95 was 20million lines of code. It is the biggest program ever written. Why bother? Why not just make a good one, and everyone wont hate you!

Did you ever see that cartoon "god bob and the devil"?
It had wonderful little asides like the devil saying "gotta rush now Board meeting at Exxon" one of the scences had the devil and god ten pin bowling
the devil was sponsored by microsoft
nice touch that

So Tom, your browser works again now? The tech department say that the scroll bars should now exist, though the new drop down menus won't drop down. They don't do that in Netscape either I think, also in iCab they're just permanently dropped down and I don't think the links work...

...meanwhile, in the strange new world of internet banking, it's finally possible to register for smile using a Mac, though you have to use a combination of tabs and scroll keys to do it. It's only taken around 18 months...
