I give up . I'm looking for an image that I don't know what it looks like. Even if I see it i may not recognise it as the thing i'm supposed to click on.
Thats if i can see it at all. If its hosted by an "advertising" website my work's proxy server will block it.
Add to this a cryptic clue (I don't do crosswords, why would i understand a question like "look under the toad stone " ) that suggests i look at the most recent article. But it does not say when the "clue" was posted so i've got to look back over the last month of articles ?

Can't be bothered however good the prize is.

Just a bit of feedback. some people may get this and find it easy... personally can't be arsed.

It's definitely there, I won't say what it is but it does stand out as different.

Keep looking

still no idea where i'm looking.

never mind eh.

It was mainly in case someone who was organising it was reading. Just to say I appreciate that its harder than "is Mt Kenya in a) africa b) switzerland c) on the moon" but i just don't get it.

OK i still don't know what the icon looks like.
I've just spent 40 mins going through the HTML source code to a lot of your pages when i stumbled upon a link to the "You have successfully found icon no.5" page.

so I think i've found the page with the magic picture on it. I just still can't see the picture.

Its possible that you've got other people reading this site and not finding it because their browser is not displaying the java script or flash or whatever it its supposed to be displayed on.

I've tried in 3 different browsers across 3 filtered and one unfiltered internet connection.

I'll try at home this evening.

so this appears to move from "i can't be bothered to work out the clue" to "it's actually impossible for me to get this by 'normal' (ie just looking at the page) means"

I'd really love to chat with someone from OM about this.
I really think i've found the page thats supposed to have a magic icon as i followed a link that went to a page that said "

however no "icon" was visible and i got to this by looking at the source code to the page.
Given that this is the case on my 3 computers using 4 different browsers and 3 different ISPs I really believe that many people can't get this competition as the image never shows up.

I'm not trying to cheat, but if you give me a shout, I'll tell you the page I think i should be looking at, and you can tell me what i should be seeing.

Relax your eyes

Look at the screen as if you are staring through it rather than at it

Eventually the sailboat should appear.

Here's a demo.

I'm with annon on this - tried twice now - can't get anywhere with it, just don't get it. Is someone having a laugh with a double bluff?

I've just done this weeks, the easiest one to find so far I thought.

Not helping I know but it's right there staring you in the face

At first I had a lot of problems too but to help you get started here is a list of what the icons look like from the bottom of the OM competition page

"Note: sharing clues openly will get you disqualified as well as making it less likely that you'll win yourself... "

not sure if that counts as a clue, more of instructions on how to take part - in fact, it is part of the official competition page...

Edit:

On reading past the initial post I realise that I have been a bit of a spoilsport for annon. I had the same problem which I considered more to do with poor instructions rather than part of the competition itself, but can now also see that not realising what the first clue looks like could actually add more fun to the competition (rather than cause someone to give it up as a bad job, which was where I was heading). Bugger, cant remove the picture from your quote...

Edit 2

Nor from my own post, it seems...

As i said . The page i found had some java script code that I found and followed. But the icon never actually appeared on the screen.
The code pointed to an image that was one of those on the screen shot above, but it didn't show up on the screen.
If I was just looking through the pages normally, I'd have never found it.

The pictures in the images above are the icons, they're even in order, so last week's was a bicycle and... go figure

We did have a brief interlude last week when the icon thing disappeared for a few hours - apologies to anyone who's brain exploded over that one - but they are there and they're generally obvious in that they're not what you'd normally find in an OM article.

The icons aren't hosted on an advertising site as far as I'm aware, they're simply on normal OM pages. If you can see the site, you should be able to see the icons.

I know its odd. but trust me... I could see the source code. I could see the ref to an image. I could manually type that code in and bring the photo of a bike up on screen, but no bike ever showed when I looked at the page.
This was on Wednesday of this week.

I'm not going to trawl through your site looking for an image that may, or may not be visible.

Sorry.

I don't know whats going wrong, but something is.

Well, isn't that part of the point of the competition? Keen, the sponsors, are getting their advertising, and Magicalia (owners of OM) are getting their members to 'trawl through the site'. Win both ways as far as they're concerned. If you don't want to play ball, there's no reason you have to.

Well my point is. I'd happily flick trough some pages if I thought there was a chance that I could actually find anything.

The question arises though, is it moral or legal to advertise a competition if there is no chance that I can see the image to enter.

Imagine someone had told you there was £10,000 in a bag in a field, then after watching you look for 10 hours they said "sorry did we say this field?". I think you'd be pretty annoyed.

Right now i've given up on the competition. If someone wants to ban me, fine, but if anyone can tell me where this weeks image is I can see if I'm going mad or there is a problem with this site / my PCs.

Its not OBVIOUS. "OBVIOUS" is large flashing neon sign.
10/06/2011 at 09:48
RIGHT !

that wasn't there 20 mins ago.

since 9 this morning in desperate frustration i've been going through the HTML code for various pages to do with the clue.
I've started going through them again for a second time and i've found it.
Not showing up on the webpage, only visible in the source code.
