anyone know of any half decent campsites at the Keswick end of the Lakes?, main criteria being:-
1,Decent Pub nearby selling either Theakstons or Jennings type liquids
2,Not a more upmarket "big posh caravans full of noisy kids most welcome" type of place
3,If not near a decent Pub as mentioned, then near to Keswick where there's loads of em'

I like Ashness Farm - cheap and cheerful but not on top of a pub :0( and can be a bit midge-y at times due to the trees but a stream runs through the site and it's *nice*.

But the *best* is Castlerigg Farm (not to be confused with the *glossier* Castlerigg Camp and Caravan site opposite it). Straight off the A591, the 'Farm' site is on the left just after the turning right for the 'other' site. 5 mins walk from the 'Crag Bar' which is cosy and full of outdoorsy people from the site and serves food (great sticky toffee pud).

The site has a lovely clean and small but well-stocked shop. The owners are pleasant and the sanitation block is *superb*. Views from the site - overlooked by many fells. Sweet. Short walk to the stone circle, too.

Loved it!

Never stopped at it, but my old mate Andy, says that the one in Braithewaite is tops!

Once stopped in the B&B by Ashness Brigde Campsite and the owner of said B&B said she was quite pissed ogg by the people from the site stealing in and using her toilet and then going back out without so much as a thank you!

Pissed ogg??????

read Pissed OFF.

Oh and Mrs F says she has stopped at the Braithewaite one and said that it is similarly TOPS!

When did she do this...? First I've heard about it!!!!

Alex - there's another kitty gone! The Castlerigg Farm site has a website somewhere. I think linked through the district site, can't remember!

The best one has to be "Gill Head farm" just off the troutbeck (the one inbetween Penrith and Keswick) to Glenridding road. Its perfect for blencahra/and all the glenridding end plus only 15 min from keswick. The troutbeck in is also v good serving pretty good food quite cheap. But thry some of the pubs nr threlkeld for very good food. Plus its on a farm with the lambs bleating about. Ah pure heaven. i have a phone number but its at home. ill dig it out tonight for you
