This month's Trail? Hmmm.

I liked the 'Cave' article.

I had to laugh at the opening photo and caption for the Ben More piece. 'How many Munros have views like this' .. Must be talking about the lovely Maria, as there isn't a view at all apart from a bluey green out of focus splodge.

Poor 'best pub' count this month, I've only been in three of them (record's still seven).

Oh and there's a 'on test' for ab tat on page 74. :-)

I think that we should have seen more pictures on that particular test...

AND! has anyone else been sad enough to notice that they've screwed up on the lettering on the spine?

July...T
August...R
September...A
October...A (again)
November...I

Oops, but if they can't get the basics right...

Just bought the new tgo, only comment is 'they pay harding to write that drivel?'

Best value is the free 'Shires' catalogue within. I haven't laughed so much in ages.

Gems:

Page 4, Radio Binoculars (so you can listen to the Archers whilst looking at the bedroom window across the street).

Page 18, Dog Zip Bag (Show me a dog in this and I'll show you a dead dog).

Page 21, Waterproof from Top to Toe (Eat your heart out Baga).

I'm not even going to mention the Strap-on.... later in the catalogue.

If I wanted recipes I would buy a cook book. Did anyone actually EVER bake a cake from a Trail recipe?

I did it the other way round... Go figure. :-)

We have adapted one of the pasty recipies to be a veggie version. They are really tasty.

I almost said I then...Mrs F would NOT be happy.

IMHO Trail mag's probably worth the £3.95 price tag, alright I read in from cover to cover in the bath but articles and gear tests are all pretty informative.

THere's tests on winter boots, crampons and ice axes and a pretty good article on Everest and info on Via ferrata. They are even suggesting I phone in sick... bloody good idea as long as my boss doesn't read this!

One thing that'll annoy Si(C) from a boot review on Scarpa Manta's from Dawn:
"I tested a pair of 38.5 rather than my 38s, they gave me slight heel lift. But my original pair is still firm favourites for walking up winter Munroes offering good insulation and padding with a superb sole unit.

WHAT'S THE POINT OF REVIEWING A BOOT THAT DOESN'T FIT!!!

BTW, I have been told I don't have a humble opinion. All my opinions are biased and extreme!!

£3.95? I bloody well hope not. I hope it's only £2.95. UNLESS they put a lot more stuff in.

I am looking forward to seeing how the mag goes over the next few issues...And to see some decent offers that may make me take out a subscription.

Last year the January issue was brill, but then went really downhill. I think that the "Munro Special" was the best issue they have ever produced.

I too think that Trail's generally a good read in the bath. But like I always say, I want to be inspired by it, not just informed.

(BTW Not read this months yet - Has Jean Luc stopped writing that historical trash for each mountain guide yet?)

there seems to be a gap in the staff list...has a certain writer left or sumthing
?

Ben, other fish to fry.......

Jonny - when you complain about "THE POINT OF REVIEWING A BOOT THAT DOESN'T FIT!!!" I think the point is that she can't always GET a boot supplied to fit! And she has pretty average sized feet...think how they'd have a problem sorting me out - now that WOULD be a challenge...they may even import something in my size...<pause for look out of window for pork in flight>

She shouldn't review boots that don't fit.

Here's my latest rewiew of a pair of size 7 SM8s

I couldn't gat my foot in but they looked lovely...
