Well... in that case... here's hoping for a safe landing.

I imagine a Martian reading the disk and saying... "We know where you live!"

Fingers crossed here too!

Yeah, I too think it's a really exciting (if possibly rash - following Paddy's hint) piece of exploration.

We live in interesting times.

Hope there's non of your DNA on it Dids, wouldn't want to be the first person to set foot there only to find it covered in horribly coloured tents.

According to radio 4 news its landed and they have a photo of the vehicles tyre ( which means the camera's working .

06/08/2012 at 06:42

they do and the full shadow of the machine on the surface of Mars..tho the dust covers are still on the cameras for now.

Sucess! what a relief for them. That new landing technique is clever stuff.
06/08/2012 at 07:41

It certainly is,a craft hovering over the surface and lowering Curiosity down by crane, almost didnt seem doable...

An impressive landing, for sure, but not as impressive as the Didster family having their names on Mars! Alas... too late for the rest of us... we missed our chance!

Yayy! It's down

Am OM-er on Mars (if only in writing)! Taking "outdoors" to new heights, this is the forum! Other forums can only gawp in envious amazement.

Marvelous stuff. Geek that I am, I took part in an online Q&A with NASA scientists back in '97. I asked them directly, is the intention to one day put humans on Mars? The answer was an emphatic "Yes! Absolutely." One day, hopefully in our lifetime, one of the first pictures back will be of a human footprint.
