Just a quickie for people who are thinking of using the M6.

I can see the motorway out of the window of my bedroom and Northbound it's very slow atm

(That's between Juntcion 13 and 14 - Stafford).

If you are off about this weekend. Good luck, and have a great time.

Can't wait to get stuck on the M6 North tomorrow, might have to go up the A6 instead through Lancaster.

As long as I get there before it gets dark, suits me. I'm wild camping for the peace and quiet.

Use the Toll road. I travelled up to the Lakes on Christmas Eve. The main M6 was jammed solid, the Toll Road was empty. For the sake of £2 it's worth it :)

Alex, if we pay you in chocolate, would you undertake to sit at your bedroom window and give reports on the state of the M6 say, every five minutes?

I can confirm that the roadworks down the bottom of my road which have been going on since November are almost finished and we have lovely new storm drains, I think.

Cara, unfortunatly the toll road will take you straight into Alex's Stafford que. It's great for getting into North wales though.

I'd do that for Choclit mate! Yorkies of course...

Latest update: Just taken the dog for a walk through the marsh that runs by the motorway.

North is moving smoothly, but South bound is slowing (say to 50mph).

Would suggest avioding the M6 completely tomorrow. Everywhere. Last Good Friday it was very slow IIRC.

My mates just rung me and the Thelwall Viaduct Cheshire is getting very busy now both ways [16-15 thu]
Beware of digital speed cameras if doing a late night / early morning run at any time too.

Yes I too am dreading the doubling in the volume of traffic that will pass my place this week end.

I mean, how on earth are we going to cope with around 4 or 5 cars per hour???

You should think yourselves lucky, stuck in traffic jams. Mrs C has been to B&Q and come back with tins of paint, muttering about the state of the kitchen...

I suggested to the ever lovely Mrs F that the living room could do wit ha lick of paint - AND that I'd also be up for doing it too.

And she said, "noooooooooooooo, no need this year"

RESULT!

ha! don't get fooled into that old chestnut. She'll just suggest another room instead.

Any chance of swapping houses, just for the weekend?

Having been stuck on the M6 this morning I can tell you that it really was not fun. Took us 3.5 hours to get from Cannock to Rochdale for a meeting and 4 to get back this afternoon.

Apparently a lorry of salmon overturned and spread its load across both carriageways and it took them forever to pick them all up and fix the barriers - at one time there was an 18 mile queue southbound!!

All the baack roads were gridlocked as well but we have got salmon for dinner tomorrow!!

just a shame about the tyre marks though. :0

The M6 badgers will be dining well tonight.

I wondered what the smell was this morning...something fishy.

The M6 was backed up north bound today, Good Friday, from the M55 Blackpool junction to beyond Leyland.
If anyone is returning south on Monday afternoon get off the M6 at the junction just past Lancaster University (junc 33), and use the A6 to Preston, then get back on the M6 at either junc 29 or 28.
Good luck.
I'll be setting off for Scafell at 7.20am tomorrow, hope the clouds not too low..

The A6 gets just as fouled up as the M6 on busy bank holidays.
