OM Usability

(what isn't working as it should?)

I've volunteered to compile a list of OM glitches and usability issues, just in case Jon can get the IT folks to take a look and fix a few things...

(The history to this request is that I wrote a trip report and spat out all my dummies due to the number of difficulties Jon has bribed me with a virtual abundance of cakes if I can be a bit more constructive...). Your assistance is requested

Please add to the list if you know of other bugbears:-

  1. Firefox 12. Usability: Have to post Gallery pics in reverse order.
  2. Firefox 12. Glitch: Can't move Gallery pics around using copy and paste (same is true for emoticons).
  3. Firefox 12. Glitch: Get a message about there being too many words in a post when there aren't that many (may be an issue with copying from a Word document, or possibly with accented characters?)
  4. Firefox 12. Glitch: text paragraphs are sometimes lost when making a large post containing both pics and text
  5. Firefox 12. Usability: Resizing for 240kb gallery picture size is tiresome
  6. Firefox 12. Glitch: Unquote doesn't work
  7. Firefox 12. Glitch - 'New' post indicators don't clear after reading for long threads such as Windy, Bennachie & Joke of the day

Nothing much works in Chrome

No smilies in Safari.
Don't know if this is fixable by OM.

No smilies? No quotes? No links? No text formatting? Please could you be a bit more specific (perhaps by saying what does work?)

No smilies, no quotes, links only work if you go back and edit

All with Chrome

This is the only site I have to get IE oiled up a running for

I couldn't post pics via upload unless I put them in gallery first but I see that's working now.

As above

How about the most popular browser in the world aka internet explorer. Getting it to work at the most basic level is better than poncing about with minority browsers.

Or if you want minority how about safari.

[edit] reply based partly on deleted stats in previous post. Never mind!

Suprisingly my main site's browser share has Safari at 29%.  It also has the combined versions of IE at 38% & FF at 30%.  Chrome barely registers.  I guess site's can vary wildly dependent on their demographic.  Given the legacy browsers embedded in older OS's 'most popular' may be the wrong statement - most common?

Between last night and this morning, I keep getting 'application errors' saying that my stuff can't be posted, and that Magicalia tech have been informed. However, my stuff does get posted, so I'm a bit mystified by the error message. I'm using Firefox.

I'm getting the same 'blue screen of death' this morning too, Paddy. It seems to be a new feature introduced overnight.

The problem I had posting appears corrected.

I suspect the BSOD is the Techies' pre-emptive strike

I think Milly's highlighted the worst glitches from my perspective - inserting photies from the Gallery in a trip report is a complete PITA and with the lack of cut and paste it makes you want not to bother.

Pm works on my Android phone. It is a Galaxy S2 though lesser phones might be different!!!!;-)

Seriously, upgrade your Android version, it does make a difference doing it. Gd luck with lies. Most awful link software ever.
