I'm a confirmed Nikwax user, so no amount of pop up ads would affect me.

Nah, most of us just block the irritating buggers.

The Grangers ad is the equivalent of a nuisance phone call when I'm on nights.

I want to kill the ad nerd who came up with this idea and I will endeavour to find alternative products to Grangers.

I dont want to have to use ad block etc when I'm on my computer.

I'm going to keep off the site for a week or two and if it's still there when I come back then I'm off for good. It's a lack of respect to the members to run an ad like this when everyone is complaining and absolutely nobody thinks its a good idea. I browse OM to chill and enjoy the forums but this ad torpedos that.

The North Face pop up was bad and I still cant look at the brand but this one is even worse.

You should be using adblock as an extra line of security anyway, nasties can lurk in those flash ads.

Without adverts, there would be no Outdoorsmagic. It's that simple.

Having said that, the ones that obscure half or all of the viewable area, without so much as a by your leave, are a complete PITA. "Inert" banner ads on a sidebar are vastly preferrable.

Agree with above post, pop up ads are very annoying.

Wondered what everyone was complaining about....until I got caught with it...thats a really annoying ad. I ended up logging off as it was making it really difficult to use OM.

"Without adverts, there would be no Outdoorsmagic. It's that simple."

That isn't the issue. Yet again there is an intensely annoying ad. Annoying ads piss off users and they resort to adblockers - is there i bigger own goal?

Are the other non-annoying advertisers happy about their paid for message being blocked or not seen due to non- visits to the site?

I think OM are doing a "compass" with the ads. Havent seen a "west" one yet though

I have to say the Grangers add is particularly enoying. Every time I think I have got rid of the bloody thing it reappears.

Well said Parky! That Grangers add is the worst yet!!

In work today, so no adblocker. OMG, it's absolutely appalling! Definintely the worst peely advert OM's had for a very long time.

I wouldn't bother with adblocker at home either were it not for the damned annoying peely ads on here!

Hi guys, comments taken on board and feedback appreciated. I've had a chat with our commercial guys and the Grangers pop-up/under/over whatever it is technically, should now be limited, so you only see it occasionally. That seems to be working for me. It's also, obviously, only on the site for a limited period of time.

From a wider perspective, I think most people understand that we're a commercial web site, so without advertising, there is no site. That said, it's obviously not in our - or in our clients' interests - to irritate OM users, so we do take your comments seriously.

Right, apologies for any annoyance. I'm off to bathe in Grangers as it's great stuff

jon, i think we all know that the site needs advertising and that is certainly not the issue but surely it's rather more irritating to the other advertisers that people don't visit the site because of the annoying behaviour (such behaviour ignored by the site! yes that is a direct criticism) of one advert.

as said before these ads have resulted in much information passed about on how to block ads - surely something else that isn't going to please the other advertisers.

i find it incredible that your commercial dept can't see for themselves just how annoying some ads are and why they don't do somethign about it. i'm sure the company who is advertising would be horrified to discover their ad is generating such bad publicity and also pissing off the very businesses that stock their product.

i believe previous ads have been pulled after either the company advertsising or other advertsisers have been made aware of how annoying a particular ad is.

(end of mini-rant)

grrr! "Grangers pop-up/under/over whatever it is technically, should now be limited" define "limited"
