I saw this trailered earlier and remembered there'd been a couple of articles about it here. It's showing right now on Quest, is anyone else watching it?

Yes.

I think I've got vertigo already.

There's a gratuitous amount of 'expletive deleted' bleeps!

Just started the serious climbing - can't believe the size of Leo Holding's rack - how on earth does he do delicate balancy moves with so much gear?!

Lovin the yellow furnace jacket... shame I cant find one

Yeah, I've been 'kit spotting'. Noticed they were using the Jetboil group cooking pot. Either they got it to work better than I did or they've got sponsorship from Jetboil

Both I guess... men are always better with gadgets!

Spotted my yellow Temperence jacket, most of them have the blue one tho. It's nice to know I'm not alone.

I know, I know, but I couldn't let that one go.

I noticed the jetboil too, presumably they don't subscribe to the theory of gas being useless in the cold which seems to pop up here now and then! I'm surprised I haven't seen more Berghaus gear given the sponsorship.

I'm still suffering from secondary vertigo - the idea of sitting/sleeping in one of those wall tents knowing that all that stands between you and thousands of feet straight down is a couple of millimetres of fabric makes me want to lie on the floor! I know it's been thoroughly tested and they're used all the time, but vertigo isn't rational.

There are some things that I know with absolute certainty that I wouldn't want to do, even if I had the ability and finance: climbing Everest for one; doing this 'big wall' stuff is another - there is no way on earth I'd spend a night in a pup tent attached to a vertical lump of rock by a few bits of gear.

What I would like to do is see the Northern Lights; which is entirely within both ability and finance! One day...

Oh, and clip round the ear for Kelvin's sexist comment
26/09/2010 at 22:57
Yeah totally agree about the northern lights - as do they apparently!

And jumping off mountains with a parachute on is another thing to add to whatever is the inverse of a 'bucket list'.

One of my favouite shots was of Stanley jumarring the ice off that fixed rope - brilliant shot.

Although if you're brave enough it sure beats climbing down.

Anyway, it's a school night so to speak, so I'm off!

From what I've read, most big wall climbers view the Jetboils as essential kit but then most big walls are not that high.

Yeah - Freshers' Week starts tomorrow, so I'll have to set the alarm clock
