That this forum somehow be CLEARLY divided into FS and WTD rather than group them all together? That way you can look first of all to see if anyone wants what you want to sell before putting it up for sale?

I could do that, yes, that is completely possible if people would like that. My plan is to completely hive off the classifieds section from the rest of the forum, so it doesn't appear in latest posts etc.

Are people generally in favour of splitting the classifieds? I can't do it retrospectively, but I can create a new 'wanted' folder and relabel the existing one as a 'FS' area?

So no, it's not 'too much to ask', it's just that no-one's asked before

Thoughts?

Awwwwww, don't do that, i'll never spot owt, which may be no big thing for me but i very often see things wanted or for sale by others and point them in the direction, i've done this several times in the past few weeks generating sales for others.

No probs with separating FS & wanted but I like the classifieds coming up in latest posts. It's something I look out for when visiting the site

I think the system works quite well as it is. Please don't add more steps for anybody visiting the site and wanting to have a quick look around.

The recent and eagerly awaited reshuffle over on LFTO has totally killed the fs/wtb sections imo, please don't push them into oblivion here Jon.

I'll buck the trend and say I'd prefer it if FS and WTD threads didn't appear in Latest Posts. At times they really dominate what's showing up as current discussions, (imo) to the detriment of other aspects of the Forum. I'd have no problem needing to go specifically to that section of the forum to see what's trading. And I don't mind if FS and WTD are split or not, but there appear to be far more FS than WTD so I take Major Cynic's point that currently the WTDs get a bit swamped and harder to find.

I'm not bothered about splitting into fs/wtd but please keep it in latest posts.   That facilty is why I prefer it to the other classifieds in the shop area.   Why is there 2 classifieds?

I've never really thought about dividing the classifieds into sections, might be a good idea though.

I certainly wouldn't want classifieds removed from the latest posts.

re: Matt's post, above...

if the classifieds 'really dominate what's showing up as current discussions', then surely thats testimony to it's popularity as a forum topic and reinforces it's justification in the 'latest posts'?
10/05/2012 at 21:00
It's certainly testimony to a lot of posting activity, I'll agree that far. A post to list an item, bumps to keep it in view, requests for pics, "PM sent", "payment received", "item arrived", thanks. etc....   all quite reasonable in themselves and I agree the system works pretty well as a means of buying and selling, but most of those posts are only of interest to the parties involved. And I know I don't have to open the thread and read them, but every post re-promotes the thread and pushes something of more general interest off the Latest Posts. That's why I'd personally rather not have FS and WTD included in Latest Posts.

Would it be possible to have some kind of switch or filter, so those who wanted classifieds included in latest posts could have, and those that didn't want them could opt not to?
10/05/2012 at 21:09
Please don't separate the classifieds out of the latest posts sections.
10/05/2012 at 21:45
I think it's a good idea to keep them out of the latest posts, or indeed more separated.

I'm truly not interested in the FS and WTD, but it doesn't bother me that they come up in latest posts. It all adds to the context... (red tent for sale... fancy phone wanted...). Many new folks probably get interested by either the classifieds and/or reviews, so if it wasn't included in latest posts, perhaps wouldn't get drawn in to all the other stuff getting discussed.

Good idea

As I use the Forum in 'topic' format rather than 'latest posts', I'm not bothered

Maybe this could be translated into Chinese for our more enthusiastic posters...
