is going on?

Last Monday should have been May Bank Holiday Monday, but it's been kyboshed.

So, which day next week is actually Jubilee Day? How many Bank Hol Days are there next week? Have we been diddled out of a holiday?

I was under the impression that the usual bank-hol has been sneakily replaced with a royal one.
But I am self-employed, so whatsa bank-hol anyway?
:(

Bank Hol Monday, and Tuesday. I'm off to Snowdonia on Sunday, so I really don't give a damn which day is the official one! But I hope that everyone else is very patriotic and leaves Snowdonia just for us. Not likely really!

So is Monday in lieu of last Monday and the Jubilee on tuesday???

Still confused...but I'm trying to avoid all the ice-cream-eating people who drive all the way to Keswick to walk round the lake, lick a lolly and then drive home again, causing endless traffic jams in the process.

Plan A: Wild camp Sat-Sun.
Come home avoid crowds of ice-creamy types.
Go back Tues or Wed and stay longer.

Worked at Easter.

The bank holiday (late May) has been moved a week AND had a day ADDED to it to allow us ALL to celebrate the Queens Golden Jubilee. It's just a 'coincidence' that it has fallen during many schools half terms. Hence a teacher has indeed 'lost' a Bank Holiday...

I'll be celebrating by avoiding all references to said Jubilee and going to the Lakes for a backpack (AFTER the opening England game on Sunday of course!)

Not a coincidence at all....as the half term was set originally as last week but after it was set it had to be changed by royal decree throught the kingdom so we'd all be really happy for her maj.
Schools can't have odd days off at will y'see......B4 you start going on about Baker days...they aren't days off, just non-pupil days....we actually lost a week of out annual hols to take those *******s.

BTW I'm still quite confused...it must be my hamstery brain...

I wondered what on earth I was doing at work on Monday when my Outlook calendar popped up and said it was a Bank Holiday!

Now I'm well up for it. Isn't it cushty that the long Bank holiday has coincided with the start of the World Cup?

I'm out walking or cycling most weekends but avoid going anywhere on Bank Holidays (totally defeats the object, which is to get away from the crowds) so, starting Saturday for four days I will mostly be watching football.

It's only once every four years after all.

It only SEEMS like it is more than every four years...

Tim I used to follow the exact same policy, but found that I often ran out of food by Monday morning. Now I compromise slightly and am prepared to venture out to the supermarket if necessary.

It only seems like more than every four years because of all the stuff in between which sometimes, to some, can give the impression that there is too much football on TV. :-)

Jon, wor lass will be doing food and beer runs over the weekend and we are going to a breakfast party before the Sweden game so that should help to stretch the supplies out.

Who cares which one is the May Bank hol we've lost & which is Jubilee day!

I'm heading for Scotland after work today, and will be up there for 5 days avoiding the BH crowds. Doing some wild camping but will still be taking the tranny to keep up with the World Cup.

Indications are that the weather gods haven't forgotten its a bank hol w\e anyway, plenty of rain predicted especially mon & tues.

Bugger! And I thought that the weather symbol for Fort William had just got stuck!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Wos hoping to wildcamp on Dartmoor this weekend.
Got to work again. Done 7 out of last 9 Bank Hols, and just to cap it off been told I've got to do a buffet for 70 on Monday night. Anyone fancy swapping jobs so I can get outdoors.

Wonder if I could get a chefs job on an expeditionny type thingy (just dont the girlfriend).

I WON'T RAIN THIS WEEKEND...I simply won't allow it!

Mrs F won't enjoy her first backpack if it rains all the time!
30/05/2002 at 17:21
Alex, you won't rain this weekend, the Queen will still be doing that.
:-)

Hope it stays dry for you and Mrs F.

I have this awful felling, which is why I'm going to cycle to the library to get something to read while we're in Scotland.
