Where?

I know I can rely on the good members of OM for some top tips as you have never failed me in the past.

This could yet be the most important question I've yet posted on here.

In a couple of weeks we shall be residing at the campsite at Llyn Gwynant and need a convenient (ish) venue for a Saturday night blow out.  Can anyone recommend a suitably hostelry that passes the quality and quantity threshold required after two long days in Snowdonia?

Many thanks

I'm guessing you all take a packed lunch followed by a pot noodle in the evening?

I stayed at the Cobdens Hotel in Capel Craig on Saturday Night, not the best hotel in the world, but they are friendly and serve great barfood!  They stop serving at 9pm, but as we were still decending snowdon at that time we phoned them to put our order through and they said not to worry we could still order when we arrived as long as we didn't leave it too late.

Well Beddgelert is your obvious town to aim for but I dont know the pubs there.

In Capel Curig the Bryn Tyrch has a nice menu (too expensive for us students so I hope/presume the food is very good).

I've had a good meal in the Vaynol Arms in Nant Peris before.

Blimey, so Cobdens Hotel is still open then! Yes, not the finest hotel, but clean and reasonably priced.

I've stayed there a couple of times without any problems, and the last time at the beginning of July, it was supposed to be closing down.

I do sincerely hope it remains open.

Just to add, we ended up in the Bryn Tyrch and the food and atmosphere was excellent.  We would recommend it to anyone.

Don't know the opening hours but the restuarant in the old chapel at Bethania, just south of you offers excellent meals using locally sourced ingredients - served with a smile from the friendly staff:-

I was sorely tempted to drop down from the saddle between Snowdon and Lliwedd for a sample last Sunday.

Go on Benco - you know you want to. Can't you hear the siren calls of the Bethania womanhood - ' come in - it's only 1200Kcals'

As all the TV chefs say as they pour cream into everything they create  "a little bit of cream now and then won't harm you"

Have to second the Cafe at Bethania... Dont bother with the one at PYP unless you fancy eating the polystyrene plate it's served on....

Rhyd Ddu isn't that far, and even if i've not eaten in there, there were 9 real ales on tonight, NINE!! Some of them class as a meal in themselves... You'd probably struggle to get nine real ales in all the pubs in Caernarfon and Llanberis combined! The food does smell nice though, and i'm taking a group in there on Saturday so it better be good!

Capel is also a fine place for food and beer, with Ty'n Coed being significantly cheaper than Bryn Tyrch which also has a pretty eclectic menu (read strange choice and expensive ).
