What's going on with OM...

... and why can't Magicalia fix it?

Dear Magicalia Boffins,

Seems to me that OM is running like a dog today. In fact, has been for days/weeks now.

And I've noticed that it's all to do with the adverts on the right hand side of the page....

Seems you wait forever for it to connect to ad.uk.tangozebra.com

A bit rubbish, really. I'd maybe expect this from some two-bit web site, but not really from Magicalia.

Surely if you can't fix it you should be having a go at tangozebra to get their act together?

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Angry

Mr Angry, it's a lot feckin' faster in Firefox :o)

Nice bit of alliteration there, eh? :o)

TBH, no it's not any quicker in Firefox, Kev.

Yes, it loads quickly, but you still have to wait for AGES for it to load the ads on the side of the page because it cannot connect to ad.uk.tangozebra.com

I normally use Opera. God knows what it's like using Internet Explorer! ;o)

Aye it's crap. And that newzealand.com advert that opens up all over the forum text when you get your cursor near it, but doesn't go away, is crap too.

Its been like this since the middle of last week. I thought it was my pc, but also spotting it on other pcs as well

A bit erratic?

The top loads quickly (down to just below the menu), but sometimes I'm waiting several minutes for the actual page content to load. Earlier I went to make a coffee while the page loaded - it hadn't loaded by the time I got back.

Not good enough, really.

Whatever the cause, it's only happening on the Forum, it's awful.I'll make a coule of calls in case they don't know about it.

Dear Mr. Angry

I understand your plight - last week, OM was running like my dog, and he's been pushing up daisies for over a decade. In desperation, I turned to the Adblock add-on for Firefox and blocked *tangozebra*.* - this had two immediate effects: firstly, it enabled OM warp-drive; secondly it made me feel good to have thwarted another ad server.

Apparently it's due to some rogue code on the server related to an old ad campaign by ad.uk.tangozebra.com. Magicalia are aware of it, and it's affecting Forums throughout the Magicalia portfolio. Tech support are trying to track down the code and get rid of it, and normal service will be resumed as soon as possible - but they can't give any timescale at present.

"TBH, no it's not any quicker in Firefox, Kev."

Hmmm, it is for me, Chief. Pages are loading instantly or as near as dammit, compared to IE which is taking up to minutes at a time.

It is for me, too. Adblock rules.
19/03/2007 at 15:25
Right, just installed Adblock Plus plugin and pages load even faster than they did before.

It does indeed rule.

My head is melted by the horrific slowness.
I keep staring at a blank page and thinking that I've had a stroke/ fell asleep/ been abducted by aliens.
19/03/2007 at 15:48
It seems to have been sorted now
19/03/2007 at 15:50
It does, indeed.

Thanks you, Magicalia!

Indeed, my head has now set in it's previous shape.

It's back working for me with IE too, now.

Are you positive you've not been abducted by aliens, ptc*?

;)

Edit: ooh, just too late!

Here, when you edit something, it takes you back to the right page.

The boffins are obviously on a roll now.
