Hi, can anyone recommend a good ML training course provider and even ones to avoid? I live in the South West so Scotland is out but happy to travel North of the Brecons. Thanks.

all ML providers are moderated by Mountain Leader Training - so there shouldnt be any duff ones

some that are run at LEA outdoor centres tend to be cheaper than those at national centres, best to shop around

I did my training at Plas-y-brenin and was very impressed, even managed to get it a bit cheaper!

Don't forget the independent providers - in my *personal* experience, you get a better course and a more personal touch with them.

Phil George is great. Did my SPA training and assessment and ML training with him. Good price and just booked into Petes eats for a few nights. Really enjoyed the courses.

Did ML assessment with Arthog OEC. Was about ??200 cheaper than the Brenin, includes all food for the week and beds etc. The assessors were really good too. Highly recommended!

For my ML training I stayed at a mice infested centre where our expedition food got nibbled before heading out. A shabby place that I didn't want to return to. Did my assessment with an "independent" provider out of a youth hostel and had a much better experience.

Have since been on several courses at Plas y Brenin and though more expensive, definitely the best accommodation, facilities and top staff.

Hi ive used glen moore lodge for my winter assessment they were brilliant, andy cunningham for winter training but there both up north, for summer assessment i used a local assessor in northumberland accommodation and food very basic basically ask them for any student feedback info,/ reviews etc, but you will pay a bit more for a centre rather than an individual. They should still make it very pesonal foryou all of my trainers and assessors did.
