Looking for a policy - any suggestions?

Hi all,

Now I know this isn't the most exciting topic ever posted but I'm looking for an insurance policy for outdoor activities. Basically I'm going freelance in June time, so if I injure myself in the hills, climbing, mountainboarding or doing something generally daft, then my income is at risk. Not doing the things I love isn't an option, so I'm looking for some kind of annual 'all-in' cover in case I ever need it. Some income protection polices tend to exclude these 'self inflicted' injuries.

Any suggestions folks?

Very much depends on exactly what you are going to do and where abouts.

Have a look at either

Snowcard
or
TheBMC

Either way it won't be cheap for annual, all-inc.

The BMC had a flyer in both Trail and TGO magazines this month, they do that kind of insurance I think, they would be a first stop for advice anyway.
I'm self employed and my insurance only covers me if I kill some one else/ blow up or flood a building. For personal injury I pay into a trade scheme.

Not sure if they would cover you for loss of earnungs.

ooops, that's earnings, earnungs being the implements one uses to remove a blockage of earwax and when using you're not sure if you are going to rip out your eardrum at the same time.

I have personal liability insurance that covers me for my professional walking activites including claims for negligence when leading walks and walking tours. The annual premium is very reasonable.

I had to convince the insurer

Perkins Slade Ltd
E-mail: sports@perkins-slade.com
Tel: 0121 6988053

that I was competent and a member of one of the recognized bodies that look after the interests of walkers. In my case that was the Ramblers' Association but I imagine that tmembership of the British Mountaineering Council and also the Long Distance Walkers' Association would also be acceptable.

The policy does not cover me either for death or injury to myself, nor consequential loss of earnings.

I suggest that you approch Perkins Slade to see if they could put together the kind of policy that you require. If this proves unsuccessful the company may be able to suggest other avenues (the staff are very helpful). As a final resort you should approach a good broker.
