Reeking boots

When did something die in my boots?

I need some advice on my boots. I need to know how I can rid them of their smell (they are Zamberlan Tonale GTX).
My wife is getting to the point where she wont let them in the house as they smell like "cream cheese and gorgonzola, gently warming". I personally tell her I cant smell them, but being male I am immune to footwear smell.

I put a cupful of washing powder in mine and fill them up with hot water, leave them for a few hours (to marinade) then put them one at a time under the hot tap and run it until the water doesn't foam any more. Stuff with newspaper etc etc. Also worth a look are antibacterial kitchen cleaners, I'm told they work wonders if you just spray one into your boot a couple of times and leave for a few hours.

get a more understanding wife.

I'd go for the latter

Lets see, she puts up with me cleaning bikes in the kitchen, keeping 21 years worth of BMX and cycling mags in the house ("but thats what a spare room is for"), reading route maps to her and loads of other stuff that she has no interest in. Shes quite good really
I think I will keep her and try the spray option in the boots - this decision was made on the toss of a coin...

Never tried it myself, but how about using Fabreze? that would be the easiest way.

what about baking soda? its supposed to absorb odours

That'll clog up the boots breatheable bits. Antibactyerial febreze (if they do it) would probably be just the job.

Why would I do that, the wife smells fine. Its the boots.....

Mark, prevention is better than cure, and I oblige Mr Collins to apply a deodorising antibacterial foot cream at all times to reduce the possibility that I might encounter unpleasant odours. The one he's currently using is 'Pedix'. My own feet of course have no need of such measures, being fragrant as rose petals....

My wife liked that option !!! She will probably make me apply it to my bottom as well (depending on the evening meal).

Whoa Whoa!
TOO much detail!

Try bagging your boots up in plastic and putting them in the freezer for a couple of days. Odour Eaters do an overnight antibacterial powder that you shake into your boots then shake them out the next day - I can't imagine that it would clog the breathable bits any more than the bacteria/muck/sweaty deposits already in there.

Body shop do a nice minty foot deodourant that I use for Karate classes (nothing worse than a cheesy foot in the face!).

I've used febrese in shoes before and it smells just as bad as the original feet smell

You can get shoe-specific antibacterial spray (must be Dr Scholl) - works very well on my fabric bootlets. Just respray once a day for a few days.
