Maybe Diddy but for someone who may be thrutching up a very damp chimney and having to belay in winter conditions - it might make a lot of sense then. Had a good fondle a while back and it seems to me to be a very specific bit of kit for very specific needs. Climbers would value the durability and the 'perceived' lightness.

See no reason for me to ever wear it under a shell to be honest - but gotta say that they should have gone the whole hog and used a better quality down to keep the weight lower.
Hood looks proper which is why I liked it in the shop.

Woops reading this thread just cost you £100

must say the Outdoor shop picture does make the jacket look much better than the one on OM,Does'nt look that bad now tbh...

Special down?  Is it not just treated with something like Nikwax Downproof?  300ml from GO at £6.52.

I got a Russian Bask duvet a good few years back & that came with down that was pre-proofed according to the swing-tag - with Nikwax (think it was TX10 then)

I dunno. Hopefully something a bit more permanent like ion mask instead? Or seemingly not.... Oh well!

It seems a good idea, but I'd still be worrying about getting it wet. However, it could be good for when you're caught out unexpected by a short shower, or when its not raining, but feels damp in the air.

It's generally aimed at climbers however... most climbers won't go out if there is a smidgeon of dampness to the rock, let alone rain. So I'm guessing it's aimed more at the alpine, fast and light brigade. Report back when I've used it in Scotland next month.

Dister sounds like a guy who can't afford one.

I,ve been using the jacket for almost a year and can't think of a bad word to say about it.

Come now, its definetly a seriously niche product.

It doesn't work as a throw over everything in any weather PL thing due to the down.

Meanwhile viewed vs a down jacket its got some major issues with warmth/weight, but much worse is its expected life time under repeated compression - the PL will give up far before the down does.

Not that its at all useless for what its aimed at mind. Quite easy to say bad things about though (its the same with nearly everything else too of course!)

I'm sure you have - pretty impressive seeing as it has only just been released.

Well, I have been using one for 6 months now and the down is fine in constant rain. No issues whatsoever. It's not the warmest of jackets but that's not it's design brief. No complaints at all really, it's been battered and abused but still looks like new.
