Hi All,

My nephew would like to get into walking but doesn't want to go with an oldie like me. He would rather go with people of his own age (14-15)which is understandable. Does anyone knowe of any clubs in the South Yorkshire area that he could look into joining?

Thanks in advance

Our Explorer Scouts (14-18 year olds) do a lot of hill walking as well as other outdoor activities (climbing, kayaking etc). Unfortunately we are on the south coast so no good geographically but there will be a unit in your area.

Id strongly recommend looking for an Explorer Scout group- it's how I learnt most of my moutain skills.

Although this doesnt always work as planned, Explorer units are meant to be run by the district, so people from over a wide area can meet and pick and choose the activities they want to focus on, with like-minded people. I was very lucky to be in a unit with two ML qualified leaders so we did a fair bit of backpacking and wild camping. I stayed with Explorers until I was 18 last summer, and now at uni I've managed to get well involved (im the newly elected captain) of the hillwalking club.

i would recomend the Air training corps (air cadets), yes it does have a military side, but they cover all AT as well as flying, field training ect as well

also they have the oppurtunities to complete BELA once old enough

ive been with the cadets for 5 and a half years and now at an instructor level and got a lot out of it

if you want more info drop me an email, im in the southwest but can give you some basic info and point you in the right direction
