Anyone walked a route from Refuge Barroude over the Port de Campbieil and cutting over between Pic Maou and Pic de Cambieil to drop down to Lac de Cap de Long and the Neouville reserve.I think Chris Townsend walked this in the other direction in his book 'Long Distance Walks In The Pyrenees' .I wonder how hard this route is in terms of route finding and terrain.

Paddy Dillion will most likely be the best one to ask there, or Ed maybe too, failing that Chris Townsend will likely have walked that route in his time; in fact I'm fairly sure he wrote an article on the route there years ago, for one of the outdoors magazines here.

I have the book in front of me. Can confirm  CT did the walk in reverse  direction. It wasn't his easiest ealk. A lot of rock and scree  and navigational challenges.  That was  pre 1991. probably a motorway through by now !

Not sure about Pic maou but there is a cairned track from Lac de cap Long up to pic de campbiel but as it isn't as well sign posted as the more popular tracks it isn't usd to often. Mind you that might have changed since I was there 4 years ago.
