Sleeping at Manchester Airport?

Has anyone slept at Manchester airport? My plane arrives 2230 and train leaves at 0615, so seven hours to kill. Any advice on quiet corners inside the airport? Sleeping bag on floor is my idea, but not in the way of anyone, ie queues that start at 0400 and you suddenly find yourself in the check-in for Easyjet and are being trampled upon!

Someone suggested to put my tent up in the grounds of the airport on some grass, not a bad idea (Stansted airport has excellent wild camp spots, one just 5 mins from the terminal). Has anyone here done that at Manchester airport, wild camping in the grounds - out of sight so that I can get some horizontal zzz....

Off to the Lake District for some 'real' wild camping for 6 days....

I suspect if you attempted wildcamping at an airport you wouldn't get a farmer with a shotgun growling 'get orf my land' but several police officers with automatics arresting you!

You'll have to go some distance to "wild camp" near Manchester Airport without attracting serious attention!

Its a big airport - much bigger than Stansted - with several terminals, so I suggest you identify a quiet corner inside the terminal building when you get there. Its not like you'll be the only one!

So it's perfectly alright for terrorists to sleep inside the airport, but not outside in their Akto? What IS this country coming to??!!

Just had a look on Google map /forum/smilies/surprised_smiley.gif[/img]fficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl]Manchester airport

Does not look too bad for camping in the bushes, in front of the airport over ringway road,if not a little noisey.

I know somebody who wildcamped at a seaport/ferry terminal ...

The ferry terminal site is a classic and well-regarded spot

Styal Country Park is really close and easily reached on foot, some nice little sheltered spots around there...

What date are you arriving?

There are plenty of people on here who could pick you up and then see you on your way.

I see people sleeping in airports all the time, just make sure your valuables are stashed away.

I was in Charles De Gaulle Airport on Monday and saw someone asleep in a photo booth.

I've tried and failed to sleep at Manchester Airport on a number of occasions. Just can't do it because of the continual security and smoking announcements over the tannoys. I've now got into the habit of using the nearby Travelodge if I have early flights or late arrivals.

Just a shame I haven't got a garden, I live close to the airport...

Sleeping in the train station part of the Manchester airport is better than sleeping in the terminals. Having said that, I couldn't manage to sleep and was very cold. I wandered into the Travelodge in a daze, I thought I was willing to pay any price for a bed, then they told me the prices and I realised I wasn't quite willing to pay any price...

If you know you're going to be stuck somewhere well enough in advance, then Travelodges usually turn out to be exceptional value. However, when you leave it until the last minute and walk up to the reception desk to ask if they've a bed, the price is vastly inflated.
