Preston area....

OK I know it's not an exciting destination but I have to make a visit to Lancashire soon. I need to get to Kirkham near Preston and go from there to Rochdale and then back to sunny Yorkshire.

Getting to Preston isn't a problem at all. But there seems to be no obvious route that goes in a straight line to Rochdale from there.

Can anyone help?

Timewise, the quickest way will be the motorway. Kirkham is so near the M55 that I wouldn't even bother going through the Preston traffic, instead I'd use that to get onto the M61 then M62 and off at J20 for the A58.

BTW Jeannie, notice anything different?

Ta much.

Gosh! You've gone all straightened up and handsome!

Who did that, then?

Me, handsome?

Must've been David Copperfield that did it, then.

Thanks for the travel notes BTW - when I said no probs getting to Preston, I meant from Yorkshire...

...and next week's expedition could be nice. I have to go to Sheff then over the Snake to Didsbury.....oh dear, I may be forced to travel via Glossop and call in at the Magic Mountain...well I have to get lunch SOMEWHERE...any suggestions where in Glossop? Seeing as I have to go near the MM?

And any good gear shops / lunch stops while on the Preston / Rochdale trail? Need to be cheap but not quite McDonalds or Unhappy Eater thank you.

For lunch in Glossop, conveniently close to Magic Mountain, try either Barrista - good coffee, posh continental sarny-type things, a little more expensive than the Glossop average - it's on Victoria Street just before you turn left into the MM car park (from the carpark, turn right out of the main entrance and walk about 20 yards...) Or the Rainbow Bistro, which is more traditional and is right by the car park - head up the obvious steps and you'll walk straight into it. Technically it's on Glossop High Street, viz, the A57.

For Magic Mountain, if you don't know it, turn left at the main lights in the centre of Glossop after approaching from Sheffield then take the first left into the big carpark and head right down the far end, where they have free customer parking.

And if you need any prescription drugs, prophylactics, support tights, suppositories, incontinence pants etc, be sure to pay a vist to Glossop's specialist chemist, Finlay McKinlay.
