Has anyone been trekking high in Peru in July? What are the daytime temps likely to be? i.e. trousers or shorts.
Would appreciate any helpful comments.

How high is 'high'? Are we talking Inca Trial? I did this a few summers ago and I'll be returning to the area in August.

For 3-5000m trekking, days should be warm, so I will be walking in sarong or basketball shorts. I will also take powerstretch tights to add when it gets higher (therefore cooler), and for evenings, which will be much colder. The combined weight and volume of all these is lower than a pair of regular trousers. Although it's technically the dry season, you can get occasional rain higher up, so everything I'm taking is quick drying.

For higher level climbing I am taking thick Schoeller fabric trousers, as the temperature range is much wider, with more likelihood of cold days.

Am doing Vilcabamba trek so up to 5000m.Was going to take Ron Hills, Zip off trekkers and Polartecs. So was not sure about extra shorts?

You should be able to wear shorts most of the daytime, so it's up to you whether you think that justifies an extra pair. Basketball shorts weigh no more than underwear but provide reasonable coverage, so I find them a useful extra. How much you take overall really depends on how much you can carry, or your weight limit for porterage.

Sue, did the Ausangate trek a couple of years back in late June. You'll find the days are pretty warm, even at 5000 metres. I wore mostly trousers, but in the sun and particularly lower down, shorts would be fine. Remember that there's a lot of UV flying around at those elevations though and slap the sun screen on exposed skin.
