Lord Hereford's Knob (Twpma)

A quick wild camp

On the weekend of 26th May I could not get a full pass-out, so after dropping my daughter off for her dancing lessons I headed to the Black Mountains to camp at a spot where I visited in 1977 with the Scouts.  I stopped at a "the oldest Inn in Wales" for a couple of scoops and then had another one in a hotel on the way to Gospel end path.  I headed to Hay Bluff first then back to the car to pick up my gear and head up to the summit of Twpma.  It was a scorching hot day but the wind was fierce at the top. I found a hollow in which to pitch my tent but the flapping was relentless.  Luckily I had Jack Daniels to ensure a good nights sleep.  I broke early and was back home for 9:15.  A great little break.  photos follow:

What app is that to put the gr on screen like that?

Good site selection.

I never realised the sun shone in South Wales...

Si, the app is called Grid Reference.  I use it more than Memory Map now because my old eyes struggle on the small screen.

Ed, look at the grid reference (taken in the tent).  It was right on the summit.

I actually camped about 2 miles away at Y Das but on the same escarpment as Twmpa. Cracking area

Did you get yourself another Laser then?  Have you still got the Hilleberg?

Me too, but I got a LC2 for the extra space for my lad (and I like the extra door).  The trouble is, my middle one wants to come too next year (when she is 6) so I'm looking to get a suitable lightweight three man.  Probably a Golite SL3 or one of those other ones that Uncle Bob sells.
