Hi everyone
The idea for this walk is for Dave and I to bag our 100th Wainwright together and choose one which is a 'stand alone' fell and which has an interesting ascent. After climbing 15 fells over my 'Skiddaw weekend' I finally caught up with Dave's tally of 99, so doing the 100th together seemed a good plan.Wainwright had mentioned in the 'Central Fells' that Steel Fell has a triangular base and is flanked by Dunmail Raise, Wythburn Valley and Greenburn Valley. It does have a ridge and this leads to Greenup Edge and gives us the chance to extend the walk and include High Raise, a fell that Dave has climbed before and which has one of the best views in Lakeland. We had options of a route down depending on the weather and Dave's fitness, lol, one route being the Helm Crag Ridge and the other via Easedale Tarn.
