.....and reports of a metre of fresh powder on the Ben. So who's getting the crampons out this weekend?

I think I'll let it consolidate a bit first ;-)

I heard on the radio recently that they'd decided not to bother opening the Glen Coe ski runs at all this year.

;)

Off to Torridon in a fortnight so it had better have consolidated by then.

I read about Glencoe on the Internet somewhere. Hasn't the lift company gone bust or some such thing?

You lucky, lucky b*st*rd!!! Crucifictions too good for you!

Never one to be smug, but.........nice evening flight from Birmingham - friends picking me up at Inverness. Simply can't wait. Four full days away from work. I'll send y'all a postcard.

If there was 7" Snow on Helvellyn its not there anymore.

I was up there yesterday and I only saw a tiny bit near the shelter.

Oh well, never mind.

Possibility of some more towards the end of this week into the weekend. Latest forecast models show a NWerly, possibly even a N developing associated with a low tracking into Scandinavia with pressure building behind.

Keeping my fingers very, very crossed at the moment. Apparently the Ben has good, hard, consolidated snow about 900m, and there's a covering on the tops of the Wester Ross Munros.......

Certainly is. We got ever so snowy on Ben Wyvis Tuesday before last. Hope you get the snow Julian. Black Isle Brewery's Scotch Ale is bloody good stuff for afterwards as well, something to do with the Bog Myrtle they use to make it.

Hence the need for a new ice axe?
08/12/2003 at 15:10
Oh yes! And for a trip to the Black Isle Brewery going to my hols in the hills and coming back from my hols in the hills. It's the Bog Myrtle does it for me every time.

I'll make a note of the Scotch Ale - can't beat a decent pint after a day on the hill. Six days and counting....
10/12/2003 at 12:24
The Yellowhammer's good too, so's the Red Kite Ale and the Porter and, and , and.....
10/12/2003 at 12:26
;) getting thirsty just thinking about it.

Oh and the little old lady in the brewery shop is ever so sweet and her dog (Lucky) is a friendly soul.

If anyone can get to the hills for next Sunday/Monday/Tuesday...go! ;-)

<a href=url target=_blank>http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1681.html

Snow laden northerly winds, gradually veering to a NEerly wind.

<a href=url target=_blank>http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1684.html

Quite a bit of PPN in there too. Should equate to several inches.

<a href=url target=_blank>http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1682.html

850 hPa (roughly about 5000ft) temps below -5C over all the mountain regions. Cooling to -10C in NE Scotland by Monday.

If the charts continue to show this setup, its looking very good indeed. First hints appeared on the GFS a few days ago. ECMWF followed last night, with the JMA, now all major forecasting models are predicting the same scenario. Good agreement! Looks good! :-)

I was in the Cairngorms yesterday - cold cold cold wind, facial sandblasting with the drifting snow... but there didn't look to be much of a snow cover anywhere I could see through breaks in the cloud. Hoping for a good dump. Of snow that is.

And if you see any, I'd recommend the beer from the Arran Brewery; I've become quite obsessed with it since a trip there in Summer. Black Isle _is_ nice though. Hmmmmmm beeeeer

Ohhhhhhhhhhh Arran Blond Beer. I remember getting horribly drunk on that outside a pub in Lamlash after a MTB ride up there.

Lovely.
