Folks,

Iain Gallagher Here. I am running yet another trip to Skye this September (15th - 22nd 2012).

I have, since 2005 run the famous OM Winter Skills meets, every February as well as the OM Skye meets ususally every May and on the odd September too. We have also run navigation weekends and provided many skills training sessions and guided trips for OM Members during various meets in The Lake District, Wales & Scotland.

A big thank you to everyone who has taken part in the many things I have run over these years and also to Jon Doran who has allowed me to continue to offer these opportunities on the forum.

2012 has been a tough year for everyone. This is the first year that I have run nothing for OM because not enough people have been willing to book. We had only two people interested in OMWS2012 and 1 booking for OMSkye May 2012, I had no option but to cancel both courses.

With Jons permission. I would like to let you all know that I will be running what has always previously sold as an OM Skye week during the above dates at a cost of £425. To my knowledge - unbeatable value for the package of 7 nights self catering accommodation and 4 days of guiding on the Cuillin Ridge. If you can find a better deal out there then I'd really like to know.

We need to find three people in order for this to run and people need to have booked places by no later than August 15th. Further information can be found here.

So if anyone is interested then please get in touch.

Jon with your permission I will continue to offer packages to OM members, perhaps you can let me know?

Regards

Iain

Bump!!

I did this with Iain back in 2008 and can highly recommend

An amazing week on a most truly amazing Island....

Well, so far I've managed to attract two persons from outwith the forum to join this fantastic opportunity to spend a week on Skye and get a chance to traverse the ridge with an experienced & knowledgeable Mountaineering Instructor - but is there any interest at all from within Outdoors Magic??

If not, why not? PM me and let me know. We have done a lot of good work with Outdoors Magic in the past and would be pleased to be able to keep up this tradition well into the future.

Hope to hear from some of you.

Regards

Iain

Hi Iain,

I am living in the US since Febuary so cannot attend any of the coming trips.

Folks,

I have done 2 winter trips with Iain and vouch for the outstanding level of tuition and value for money.

Following on from Stephen's comment, FWIW I've done a weekend nav course with Iain and IMO it was well-structured, informative and professionally delivered.

If I hadn't got prior commitments in September and could afford the time away I'd join Iain and the group for the Cuilins - certainly I'd be confident I was in good hands.

hi lain, i would like to express an interest in this trip, could you let me know what kit i would need and what the plans for the week entail in more detail please. also i would have to travel via public transport so how easy/hard would it be to get there with all the kit required for the week. i have not been to sky as yet so have no idea of the logistics of it all regards food for the week etc. cheers les.

Hi Les. You can read about what you will need for this trip on this previous OM thread and a report from that trip here Looking at your profile it sounds like you already have most of what you will need although a 50 litre rucksack will be required for days on the hill as well as a helmet & harness which I can provide if you haven't got your own.

Public transport - never done it! Probably simplest to get the train all the way to Kyle of Lochash via Inverness and then get a service bus going to Portree and get dropped off at Sligachan where I could pick you up. The alternative would be to bus/train via Glasgow to Fort William and  then get the service bus (if there is one) from there to Kyle of Lochash etc etc....... OR - I can put you in touch with the others who are coming as I'm sure people will want to lift share and on that note can you PM me an email address please, I'm happy to help where I can.

Oh - food is your own responsibility and read about eating arrangements on the OM thread I've linked on here. Having said that I will happily help you sort out any difficulties where possible. The nearest decent shopping contre is Portree - only 45 minutes way from where we stay by car. Speak soon, Iain.

hi lain thanks for reply, i will have a read through those threads this evening when i get time. have just done a quick check with regards public transport and have to say it is very expensive so if it is possible to sort a lift share then that could swing it for me to be honest. i will send you a pm with my email address if you would prefer to use that. i dont own a helmet or harness so a loan of these from you would be great thanks. cheers les

Les - someone else apart from me is driving up and its looking like they will be keen to lift share. If I can put you in touch then everyone is a winner!

hi lain, have been in touch with martin an he has agreed to pick me up from penrith train station so i would like to confirm i will be attending the week on skye. will send the deposit this evening on line. looking forward to meeting everyone and having a great week up there. cheers les

Fantastic - thanks Les for liaising with Martin - It will be good for him to help reduce his travelling costs as well as you both having some company on the journey up. It will also be a massive saving for you as opposed to making the journey by public transport.

It is also good as always, to have an Outdoors Magic member joining us as if it wasn't for OM all those years ago this annual pilgrimage would never have gotten off the ground

Well, we are definitely going to Skye now  just need to put in an order for good weather - please!!!

if anyone thinking about going on this trip then i would thoroughly recommend it.we had a fantastic week and Iains knowledge of the cuillin was excellent. the 4 days we spent on the cuillin were long hard days but the views etc when the clouds cleared were well worth all the effort. thanks again Iain for a great trip.
