Hi all doing the mountain run section of this http://www.cxtri.com/ next weekend.

Anybody have any experience of Beinn Eighe, particularly the descent of the scree gully adjacent to Triple Buttress? Any other info about the hill in general would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks

James

The gully has been battered to bits. I remember running down it in the mid-late 90s without much problem, but it was so smooth back in March this year that I took a much more tentative route down the right hand side. Could just be me getting older, mind. Going up from the east end and along the ridge is much better, if that's the way this event route lies.

Great picture. The descent is roughly down the gully or as the organisers put it 'any line you like really'!

I've been up the gully. It's pretty bad in terms of steep scree. I certainly wouldn't  pick it as a descent route, but its probably doable.

There's a trip report here with some pics of the scree gully,

I found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NWVl0x1zn8 and it doesn't look that bad.

For the support runner its pretty much a normal day in the hills but the actual competitors will have done a 2.5 mile swim, 125 mile cycle and 12 mile run before they even hit Beinn Eighe.
