I haven't been to North Wales for years but have now got a wekend booked at Betws-y-Coed, and was wondering if there's a decent pub there nowadays. Decent for me would be real ale, decent food, no TV. Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

Cheers all.

Betws has always been pretty rubbish for pubs in my experience. I've usually ended up, like everyone else it seems, in The Stables (next to the big Cotswold's). But that's really not that good a pub.

A little walk out of town along the road towards Capel Curig will bring to the Ty'n y Coed which is much, much, much better.

Last time I stayed there I stayed in a b&b which did fantastic food, and local real ale. The Ty Gwyn Inn on the A5 just as you approach the bridge into town from the east.

The Spar shop in town probably has the best selection of local ales though...

Cheers for that. The pub scene there was never good when I used to go to the area regularly, but I thought it might have improved.

No they haven't. You will end up wandering up and down the road, visiting faintly depressing hotel bars before ending up beaten in the Stables.

Been for a long weekend twice in last 4 years and can say that all 4 nights out have been crap.

Sorry

I think that the bar in the Glan Aber Hotel is about the best place.
