Not sure about grid refs, but there's one central and virtually next to the Pub (Fish Inn?), it's owned by the farm.

I've stayed there before and would recommend it, it's a small site, but it as decent facilities (inc shower) and handily situated for the pub, and walking of course.

Here's a link to the location:-

There's 3 campsite at Buttermere. The one that Lloyd mentioned is called Sykes Farm. It's right behind the Bridge Hotel and across the lane from the Fish. The other two are further up the valley. Here's the GR and telephone numbers for them.

Buttermere, Sykes Farm
GR. 173171 - Tel. 017687 70222

Butteremere, Dalegarth
GR. 186159 - Tel. 017687 70233

Buttermere, Gatesgarth
GR. 191148 - Tel. 017687 70256

There's also a camping barn which is very handy for both pubs.

I was at the sykes farm site on the bank holiday weekend, tis very nice.
The Bridge hotel has very good beer and the foods ok too.
£5 per person per night for the camping which isn't the cheepest in the world.

There is a great walk up haystacks and along the ridge all the way to scale force that we did - fantastic walk but really knackering. The shoreside stroll is well worth doing in the evening when its quiet.

I'd vote for Sykes Farm too. Really nice campsite.

Sykes Farm is great when its dry but in the wet weather it's awful. I remember camping there a few years ago one Easter when it chucked it down for days on end. The camp site was so muddy that we nicknamed it "The Somme".

But I agree, it's really handy for the pubs. Might be worth finding out about parking because the car park in front of the campsite is run by the National Park and the charge is £3 per day. Although you can park up the road opposite the National Trust car park.

I agree Sykes farm is the site, and it has its own parking at the end of the NP car park and it is included in the fiver a night. If it rains I always pitch on top of the hill in the middle of the site!

and the Fish Inn for food which is much nicer than the Bridge. In my humble opinion :)

Sykes farm campsite is great, in nice weather. Oh and dont forget to hit the sack early because there are some noisy cockerals (is that what they are called?) that run around the site at about 5 in the mornin making loud screechy noises. One must have been about a foot from me tent, i felt like strangling it :)
Great walk up High Stile straight via the Ridge. I was into photography when i was there... set off to do Red Pike via Bleaberry Tarn, reached the Tarn, fantastic photo just waiting.. Camera on Tripod right on edge of Tarn....just line it up.. bit more ...splosh ...£200 worth of Canon camera straight in the Tarn. To say i was gutted, i packed up the next day and went home :(
Oh yeah the shutter still worked, so i took it to Jessops (didnt tell them where it had been ) and traded it in for the next model in the Range ;).. I now have a Minolta.
