hi all,
Im going to the lakes at the end of June and have been looking for a campsite. We will be attempting Crinkle Crags and Bowfell on the Saturday and Helvellyn on the Sunday.I had decided on the NT site at langdale but thats where the problem lies.
My friend will be using his campervan whereas i will be camping, the only way that we can pitch together is if we dont book and just turn up and hope that they've got some room.
So does anyone know of any sites near to the starts of these walks?Where we would be able to pitch together?
cheers
David
p.s.should have mention that we'll be starting Helvellyn from Glenridding and Crinkle Crags from Langdale.

Hollows Farm is in Borrowdale!

I used to use Bayesbrown Farm, in the days when I last bothered to use a campsite in Langdale... which was winter 1975!

I used to pay around 20p per night to camp on sites, but these days there are too many cheeky chappies asking me for £20 for the privilege, so I stay out in the wilds instead.

Further up the Langdales valley road you start to go uphill towards little langdales. Campavans have parked up there for many years in the past. Although check it out before he tries it as it is steep and a narrow cattlegrid on a bend at the foot of the hill might restrict it if its a big one not just a VW sized one (or a bit bigger).

Its free and close enough to the NT campsite. Also If you turn up and he can camp at the site too then no problem but this is there as a back up IF you want to risk it.

I don't know the legality of doing it though but have seen others doing it. I have left my car there overnight before now when wildcamping. Up to you.

Even if its quite busy I'd be surprised if you can't get your tent pretty close to the van on the Langdale site, assuming a reasonably small tent. Just try to arrive fairly early.

Err yeah sorry about that, got my Dales mixed up.

It's still a nice campsite though, just in the wrong place

We stay at NT Langdale regularly in our campervan. Can't see a problem with pitching a tent next to it.
